D23 Expo

Info

(And, yes, it's open to non-members.)

Ok, who's going? I've gotta go get my freak on with my geek on!

Morrigoon 06-03-2009 07:58 PM

I'll be camping, so no can do. Hopefully the Lassiter speech will land online later.

wolfy999 06-03-2009 08:38 PM

This event would make for a nice swanking!

katiesue 06-04-2009 08:57 AM

I have a ticket for Saturday.

Disneyphile 06-04-2009 12:17 PM

I might have to get the 4-day pass. I'm also wondering if costumes are allowed.

Yeah, I'm a geek.

There's a dresscode - read the "Before You Go" section.

Kevy Baby 06-04-2009 01:17 PM

I missed the D22 Expo and I hate to do these things out of order.

Moonliner 06-04-2009 01:41 PM

If you see any cool Moonliner merch, twitter me!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 06-05-2009 08:13 PM

If I can swing it, I'll be there too!

lashbear 06-05-2009 11:38 PM

Forget it !!! Not for me !! I'm staying at home.

dlrp_bopazot 06-06-2009 01:51 AM

the french will be there . if you dont mind hanging out with the french at the Expo .

Disneyphile 09-09-2009 04:07 PM

Anyone still going?

I'll be there all four days. And, from the looks of the awesome schedule, it's going to be an exhausting four days.

Things I'm looking forward to:

"Lost" University
"The Boys" panel and screening with the Sherman Brothers
"Disney Rarities" panel and screening of some early animations that have not been shown in over 60 years!
Toy Story 1 & 2 in Digital 3D screening
The World of Vintage Disneyland screening
Never Heard Music from Disney Animation
... and so, so much more.

I'm gonna be in geek heaven! :)

innerSpaceman 09-09-2009 04:10 PM

Costumes will be worn --- by protesting Disney hotel employees whom Disney wants to strip of current health care benefits. Read all about it (Unite) Here. Mickey, Minnie, Tink, Snow White and others will be wearing hospital gowns and bathrobes and getting "sick" on Katella Blvd. to demonstrate the fate of hotel workers who might take ill after health benefits become unaffordable to the low wage hotel workers.

I think the protest will be more fun than the Expo. Sounds like a glorified Innoventions. Curious to hear about it, but not enough to attend.

Chernabog 09-09-2009 04:43 PM

I was thinking of going but don't think we'll have the time. Malibu Barbie Beach Party is on Sunday! Drag queens on the beach > D23.

:( Oh well. We'll hear how it is this year and then try going next year!

katiesue 09-09-2009 05:19 PM

I'm going on Saturday.

innerSpaceman 09-09-2009 05:22 PM

I'd rather go to Barbie Malibu Beach Party. Sadly, I won't be doing either. Le Sigh.

Not geeky enough? Not gay enough? Not possible!

lashbear 09-09-2009 06:11 PM

So, why doesn't LoT have a booth???? That other board has a booth...

We've missed our chance. Boo Hoo. Now no-one will take us seriously.

;)

wolfy999 09-09-2009 06:37 PM

The Wolfpack will be there on Saturday.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-09-2009 07:20 PM

LoT had better get a booth next year....

But must include...
- Bar with Sidecars for all memebers
- Couches
- Shag carpeting
- Smoking jackets and evening wear

....

Andrew 09-09-2009 07:27 PM

If only you know how much money, time and sheer aggravation was involved in getting a booth at D23... you'd bite your tongue.

That said, MP will have a special announcement at D23 around noon tomorrow and it'll go up on the site at the same time.

Oops, sorry mate: I wasn't aware that MP had a booth. I meant that other other board.

Morrigoon 09-09-2009 09:36 PM

So I'll be going tomorrow. I have this extra ticket, any takers?

Oh, and having determined from the website (www.d23expo.com) that costumes WILL be welcomed, I will be appearing in my tightrope dress :D

So, um... we don't need a booth, we need a lounge!

Disneyphile 09-09-2009 10:40 PM

Could Yip Yips be considered Muppets or just Sesame Street? Ken's joining me on Saturday.... and that could be fun.

Oh, and Goonie - Mouseplanet is having a lounge at their booth. :)

Morrigoon 09-09-2009 10:50 PM

Dunno... hell, they're letting ABC have an area...

But I don't think masks are allowed.

CoasterMatt 09-09-2009 11:17 PM

I wonder what they'd say about my "Save The Dolphins, Eat A Mermaid" shirt?

I don't know. You should wear it so we can find out. Be sure to post the results.

Morrigoon 09-10-2009 11:21 PM

Since Photobucket has drastically restricted storage on non-pro accounts, and since I won't take the time to set up a new one at this moment, I uploaded the pictures to Facebook.

Highlights include pictures of me with an MSEP float, Marty Sklar & Mary Costa (not simultaneously), as well as pics of stuff on display including some great shots of Cars Land models, naked presidential AA's (okay, just Lincoln), and ride layout for Mystic Manor (which HKDL will get in like 2012)

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-11-2009 01:32 AM

Yes, masks are allowed as long as they don't restrict vision.

I'll be going tomorrow. I think we should have a LoT meet at the MP booth at noon....

wolfy999 09-11-2009 09:51 AM

The Wolfpack will be there, but have no idea what we'll be doing at noon. If it works out, we'll stop by MP booth around that time.

Andrew 09-11-2009 09:53 AM

Wish I could be there to greet you all. Have fun!

Chernabog 09-11-2009 12:33 PM

Welllllll how is it?

innerSpaceman 09-11-2009 02:31 PM

Yes, I saw Johnny! We had a live Jack Sparrow! The REAL one! He was awesome - stayed in character the whole time. Also had Tim Burton, Nicholas Cage, Robert Zemekis, John Travolta, Jerry Brockheimer, a surprise performance by Mylie Cyrus, and the Muppets performed onboard a small scale Mark Twain. Disney has also contracted with Guillermo del Toro to create a new soft horror label - Disney's Double Dare You. I have also seen the first 30 minutes of Princess and the Frog. It's SO awesome!

My fave news - the Disney Wonder will be spending summers on Alaska sailings beginning in 2011, with prices starting around just $900! 7-day Mexico cruises will start in the mid $600 range. VERY affordable. She is being permanently moved to Los Angeles in January 2011.

And, the new big rumor is that George Lucas is showing up tomorrow to break the new Star Tours news. I will still be here and try to report in when possible.

At the Disney Rarities panel and viewing now. They're showing rare shorts not seen in over 60 years and some of Walt's first animations.

RStar 09-11-2009 10:05 PM

Oh, my! I keep hearing about all of these great things going on the past two days. I hope they save some of the fun for us poor saps who have to work on the weekdays and can only come out on the weekends!

Gemini Cricket 09-12-2009 12:54 PM

Apparently, Star Tours II was announced. 3D with a Pod Race section. Opening 2011.
Cool!
:)

CoasterMatt 09-12-2009 05:13 PM

The whole thing sounds like a big circle jerk with mouse ears on, to me.

I'd rather go to Disneyland.

Star Tours Simulator + 3D = Extra Barfage.

Melonballer 09-12-2009 05:57 PM

I absolutely love this video. Mostly for the way the audiences reaction changes so quickly.

Rasulo "We are going to be doubling the size of Fantasyland..."

Audience: "WOOOOOOO" 'applause' 'Cheers'

Rasulo " to include more of your favorite princesses!"

Audience "Awww" "ehhh"

Fantasyland Annoucement

Disneyphile 09-12-2009 08:12 PM

Today was fun, but not as surprising. I attended the Parks and Resorts presentation with Jay Rasulo, and it ended with the very dimensional Star Tours 2 announcement. :)

And, for a nice token, we each received one of three limited edition and hand numbered Star Tours 2 mini-posters. Each one is limited to just 1,723 copies. :)

Disneyphile 09-14-2009 05:06 PM

Unfortunately, Gonzo and Fozzie took a break right before it was my turn, so I didn't get a photo with them. But, I did see them interact with people and couldn't stop laughing. The three of them were totally tearing up the crowd! :)

I told Pepe how cool he is, and he asked me to keep repeating it. He's a tad vain. ;)

I normally don't get overly excited about meeting celebs, but the Muppets are different - for some reason, they seem more real. They're exactly the same in person as they are on the screen. ;)

The mind boggles at the implications of that statement.

Perhaps it's best that we don't look beyond as was originally suggested.

That's funny. I just about approached him and offered him to come check out my hot tub, pause, and then mention that it's filled with cocktail sauce. That could have been a hilarious reaction!

But, of course, I was so excited that I forgot what I had cooked up to say.

It'll be unlike anything I've ever seen because I'd probably be too frightened to see it.

Wow, this kind of tugs at my heartstrings, even though I'm not a huge fan of the Disney film offerings in recent years. He started out as a CM...

With Dick Cook gone don't be surprised if any particular projects greenlit by him but not yet in production get put on hold and/or canceled.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. No, I've decided. I don't want anyone to remake YS, even Disney. I feel like an old grump saying so, but I don't like this. The only positive I can think of is that a new version will bring renewed interest in the original.
