Awhile back a few of you had icons that looked like a few tv commercials that had been running. I think it was for a finance or investment company of some sort that was doing the commercials.

They looked like illustrations that had been converted from a video...

Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? And if so, was there a filter in photoshop you used to get that effect or was it a lot of hand tweaking?

Perhaps you mean Waking Life? I believe I had an avatar of this before, and Brad as well.

The commercials are by Charles Schwab and use the same process.

You can do a similar effect in photoshop but it won't look nearly as good as actually drawing on top of images.

That's the one. Thanks!

And, if you really want to make it move, AfterEffects has a new filter that does it automatically too. :)

I got motion sickness watching Waking Life in the theatre. I barfed in the restroom after about a half hour of it. I remember thinking it was a decent film otherwise...

I was actually hoping for a photoshop action or something that would do it all for me.

Well, you might get it to hold your hair back, but I doubt you'll be able to get it to barf for you.

ElizaH posted this link awhile back to Vector Magic. You download a photo and it takes care of the rest... Does this help?

I've been playing around with Inkscape for some art projects recently. It's free and works great. It has a function that can convert a bitmap into vectors.

Alien Skin through their Snap Art product has a number of filters that you can apply in say photoshop. I have a set that I posted up on Flickr. part of the set I took a photo I had of Sleeping Beauty Castle and added each filter with the default settings. They have some really good stuff!

More importantly, are you a foe of Gn2?

Oh yeah, I should know that. Just in case.
