Are you a Genius?
You have to work out what the letters mean. See No. 0 as an example.
According to MENSA, if you get 23 of these, you are a "genius". Only 2 MENSA members achieved full marks. See how well you do. Please PM me for the answer key. |
I've seen this many times so I honestly don't remember what I figured out on my own and which I just remember. So I won't be playing.
That said, some are regional. Even the smartest Mensan-American isn't going to have a good chance at getting #31. And: Yes, I am. |
Google seems to know all of these. Does that make it smart?
Can I say I'm smart because I can reason out correct tool (Google) to solve this quiz? Or is this really just a dumb**** way to test IQ? |
Hell if I know-it doesn't give you an IQ #...I just thought they were fun to figure out.:p

I've done this one before, and I highly agree with your sentiment of bias. I want to say it came up in a classroom discussion and my professor agreed. Or something like that. |

GD: my brain kept going to your first idea on that one, even knowing it was wrong. I like your second answer.
For #12, I was thinking the B M part, but couldn't answer what was in the parentheses. Dagnabbit, I'm sure you're right! #8 drove me nuts and I can't believe I didn't think of that answer, but there's another one I'm sure you're right on! |
Im just gonna cut to the chase

Well, I'm pretty sure I've crossed the genius line, but I'll keep plodding like a f*cking idiot.

That's what I got.

Yes, one feels rather stupid about that one. If one is me, said Pooh.
|
The only good thing about being a genius that I can see is that you apparently have a lot of free time to do puzzles.
|
I got them all right.
|
If MENSA thinks a test like that shows intelligence in an objective fashion, I doubt that MENSA is actually composed of geniuses.
|
I agree. It's not like it's an SAT test test.

More seriously, I'm sure MENSA never made any such claim for the test. In fact, I can't find any confirmation that MENSA even created this puzzle (not saying it didn't) and if they did, I suspect this isn't the original form of it. ---- I wrote the above then decided that felt like a quick research project. Here is a 100 item long list of these puzzles (has some of these but not all; the cricket one then was 6 B in an O (but 8 in A) for 6 balls in an over but 8 in Australia) that was posted to USENET in 1994. It is presented there as simply a test of mental flexibility with no mention of MENSA. The discussion of the rec.puzzles archive in those old USENET threads with these types of puzzles lead me to this page. Which, if it is to be trusted, says this type of puzzle was invented and first published in the May/June 1981 issue of GAMES magazine. They published more in two 1982 issues. Back in those pre-internet days (for most people) these puzzles managed to go viral and people photocopied, distributed, and altered them and GAMES magazine actually began receiving their own puzzle back as submissions. Based on the extent of the MENSA claim I'm finding on the internet that got added at some point and seems to have been a very popular alteration. |
The more I think of it, I want to say I first saw this "test" was in printed form that tramspotter's dad had around.

Actually... #28 is:

yeah-I copied the whole test-the MENSA thing was odd to me as well but I left it.

I take back my MENSA slur. Thanks, Alex.
(as for getting 22 right, ha. Every time I glance at the test my brain goes "26 wha of the wha?" And then I quit.) |
supposedly has the answers
