Unused parts

When you buy various toys what do you do with the extras that you don't use? I have a bucket load of stuff and don't feel right throwing it away. IE buy external drive they give you both USB and Firewire cable. Only use USB cable. or buy a new MP3 player or phone and get another headset when you already have your favorite ear buds.

Decent headphones go up on Amazon.

Cables get saved in a bag in the garage, since they eventually die.

Just try to make their last days happy ones.

Kill them. Kill them fast and without mercy.

Gone, no goodbye, just gone from my house, hello trash heap and global waste management issues.

I put them in a large drawer. Then, when it filled up (this is at work mind you) I sorted those into cords I was likely to use and those there were unlikely. The likely ones stayed in the drawer. The unlikelies into a box in the storage closet. I'd used some from the unlikely box. You never know what you just mind need sometime.

Into a large shopping bag. This gets stored in the bookshelf until they're needed for unexpected moments. It usually works well for us.

Stored in a baggie in the closet with all the CDs/software and manuals for the various toys. Eventually I need one for something else.

When I first read the title of this thread I thought it said "Unused Pets".

I have Thread Title Dyslexia.....

I wanted to know what the parts were from. :)

JWBear 06-21-2009 11:23 PM

Parts is parts.

Thinking on it a bit, I realize that I do have a small bit of reasoning about keeping/tossing parts.

I think one of the key deciding factors is "how many do I already have of these and how easy/costly is it to replace?"

Phone cords go first. Lately, I have been letting go of basic USB cables as I have found that I have quite a few. And I have more 3-foot RCA stereo cables than I will ever need (especially the cheap flimsy ones).

When I read the first sentence, I thought it was going to be about unused sex toy attachments. Seriously.

Where else but here would I think that?

The corruption is now complete.

Our bunnies destroy cords and wires so we keep all extras handy. We have large ziploc bags labeled for the different kinds of cords, piled into two file boxes. The organization is thanks to a nervous breakdown I once had trying to sort through a box of various tangled wires.

Morrigoon 06-22-2009 07:16 PM

Have you looked into some of those cord protectors?

So what do you do with yours?

Morrigoon 06-22-2009 07:18 PM

Nothing, apparently, as they're unused?

Put them in a bin labeled "extra computer cords".

Wouldn't that be an oxymoron?

Frikitiki 06-23-2009 12:58 AM

I'm looking to clean up space and just don't want to throw them in the trash. I have some old cassette recorders. I have 1 to keep and want to get space in my place. They work, i just don't want/need them anymore.

Kevy Baby 06-23-2009 04:47 PM

I am ashamed to admit that I kept an 8-track recorder for a great many years.
