Burtons Alice looks really good...

I like the latest info I've seen.

Don't know what to make of the enlarged head of the Red Queen, but I guess she's got a big head and that's the truth of it.

YAY for an Aussie girl getting the lead role. :D

Cant wait for March 2010... wait. When will Antipodeans get it? Ok, can't wait till (probably) October next year.

Still.... look at the garden of live flowers. Can't wait. Maybe Disney can update the Alice Dark ride..... a Depp figure or two can't hurt, can it?

I can't wait for the Depp version of the Matterhorn.

The art is wonderful, though I'm concerned about the storyline twist.

Where did you see the Red Queen? I can't find it. Seems a certain amount is taken from the original drawings, and the characters did always have huge heads.

innerSpaceman 06-22-2009 09:55 AM

I don't mind the twist. It seems it's just a way to get her down the Rabbit hole with more motivation. I actually like the "return to Wonderland" concept, and I think Lewis Carol used that as well in the "Looking Glass" sequel.

In any event, this was taylor-made for Burton's sensibilities. I feel better with him remaking a tale that's been told dozens of times and has as many legitimate interpretations, rather than a singular story like Apes or Wonka.

Burton's been rather hit and miss the last ... um, few decades. I really, really hope he hits with this one. I LOVE the look ... but that's one area where he rarely misses. And a Look does not a movie make.

Ghoulish Delight 06-22-2009 10:06 AM

My feeling has been that Burton is far better when directing "new" material. That is to say, his remakes and adaptations of known books have been his weakest films, while the ones that were written for him to direct or were taken from very obscure sources are the ones I love. Batman, perhaps, is the glaring exception, but even then I prefer Returns which I feel stands as a pretty unique chapter in Batman canon tailored to Burton, even though he himself didn't write it.

But if there were ever an existing world that was a good fit for Burton it's Wonderland, so I remain hopeful he returns to form here.

wolfy999 06-22-2009 10:21 AM

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, perfect!

Nephythys 06-22-2009 10:46 AM

Big bright pics-looking forward to think one

Snowflake 06-22-2009 10:47 AM

This is what CGI is for. It looks fantastic. I'm all a twitter

You are a social networking web site? I'm confused.

wolfy999 06-22-2009 11:19 AM

Or are you my dog?

mousepod 06-22-2009 11:27 AM

Hoping for the best... for so many reasons...

Gn2Dlnd 06-22-2009 11:42 AM

I'm sure I'll go see it, but...

Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are two different places and two different books. Why can't any filmmaker separate them? Seems like built in sequel material to me.

...I don't expect to love it.

J,
I found a pic of her here.
:)

I like the big headed Helena...

Disneyphile 06-22-2009 01:19 PM

Looks awesome! :snap:

Morrigoon 06-22-2009 01:48 PM

Okay, so this takes place 10 years after her original visit to Wonderland?

lashbear 06-22-2009 04:26 PM

as did American Magees Alice as well ! No-one wants to remake the original anymore.

I like the Matt Lucas Tweedles!

Morrigoon 06-22-2009 04:36 PM

Can't look at that picture of the new white queen without picturing Carol Channing singing, "Can you do addition what is one and one and one and one and one and one and one and one and twooooooooo"

Edit: OMG creepier than the addition song!

Gemini Cricket 06-22-2009 04:45 PM

I can't see Carol Channing without thinking about our Chernabog.
lol!
:D

Prudence 06-22-2009 08:30 PM

Alan Rickman?!!? *swoon*

I was all set up to be offended, but now I see that it's not a remake of the first go-round necessarily.

Plus, Alan Rickman.
*swoon*

wolfy999 06-22-2009 08:40 PM

So you like Alan I'm gathering?

flippyshark 06-22-2009 08:43 PM

Ugh - can't stand digitally inflated giant heads. I hope the Red Queen won't actually be presented this way.

Other than that, it looks intriguing.

I'll second that swoon, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar. Stephen Fry as the Cheshire cat, cool!

I wonder about Frances de la Tour, I love her, as well!

Sorry to disappoint you, but not only does she have a big head throughout, but the Mad Hatters eyes are enlarged a la Lord of the rings...

Jazzman 06-23-2009 12:18 AM

The Mad Hatter's bowtie looks like it's printed with a bunch of Jack Skellington heads. Awesome!

I can't wait for this film. Alice in Wonderland and Tim Burton were made for each other.

So THAT"S how they got Elijah Wood's eyes to do that!

All last night I was imagining him saying: "Who are you." And then I swooned some more.

VPM !

Ghoulish Delight 06-24-2009 08:40 AM

This really doesn't have to do with Alice, but it's still nice to read that it is possible for someone to be a superstar AND a decent human being:

Johnny Depp leaves $4000 tip

innerSpaceman 06-24-2009 09:50 AM

And, wowza, his current Public Enemies look, as evidenced in that photo, is one he should hang onto - instead of his usual civilian Deppitude. Hubba and may I say Hubba.

That he's apparently not an a$$hole is a decided plus.

Now he just has to swear off any more Pirates sequels ... and really, try and take it a little easier on the Burton.

Spoiler:

Not Afraid 06-24-2009 08:30 PM

I'm actually VERY excited about this version. I think Burton and this story are made for each other and I've even looking forward to the CGI-enhancing (who would EVER think I would say THAT!?). I hope it it taken to the surreal place that Burton is perfectly capable of taking us to.

Strangler Lewis 06-24-2009 08:41 PM

Anybody tried reading "Alice in Wonderland" lately? It's a wordy bore. I think every filmed or staged version ever made is more enjoyable than the original.

And I include our high school version in that list.

And the porno.

Next thing you know you will be watching Blazing Saddles and quoting Monty Python.

Not Afraid 06-25-2009 07:57 PM

God help us all.

innerSpaceman 07-16-2009 04:46 PM

Some new pics here, with the characters holding small animals.

mmmm, ok.

mmmm, ok.

A dormouse, a march hare, a white rabbit, and a pig.

flippyshark 07-16-2009 07:27 PM

Has anyone here seen Jan Swankmaier's surrealist take, Neco Z Alenky? It's a creepy mix of live action (Alice) and stop motion puppets (everyone else). If you liked the Quay brothers Street of Crocodiles, this is the Alice for you.

Alex 07-16-2009 07:34 PM

Helena Barnham Carter looks like Bozo the Clown. That's going to be hard to take serious if the look comes off that way in the movie.

Heh that's the one where she keeps saying "SAID THE WHITE RABBIT." I was saying that all day the next day until BJ threatened to smack me. ;)
