DisneyDaniel 07-11-2009 06:03 AM

Congrats! I like the color! Hope Sophia does not attract any flyby birds while it's still shiny and new.

Shiny! I love the color.

innerSpaceman 07-11-2009 07:16 AM

???

I hope you don't mean getting hammered with Tawny's stiletto heel!

CoasterMatt 07-11-2009 09:50 AM

I hope she doesn't mean getting loaded with sleeping pills and alcohol, either.

Gemini Cricket 07-11-2009 01:18 PM

Awesome!

Morrigoon 07-11-2009 01:29 PM

Well, while she is beautiful, Tawny can be a bit unpredictable.

DreadPirateRoberts 07-11-2009 05:05 PM

nice!

Morrigoon 07-11-2009 05:11 PM

I have to say, I love the lighter shades of leather upholstery.

This is closer to what I had in mind:

bewitched 07-11-2009 10:49 PM

Ooooo...shiny!

Morrigoon 07-12-2009 01:50 AM

(I just meant it as a compliment to the car)

And you're welcome to have Gerard Butler splay himself across the car... as long as I get to watch :)

It looks like Gerard Butler is splattering blood all over your new car. I'm not cleaning that up.

Yes, last night right after I posted my bad Photoshop, I realized it looked like I was gleefully running over poor Gerard's toes, but hey, I was tired at the time and ready for bed.

No worries about cleaning it up. I'd gladly lick all that up off Gerard's Spartan body. :)

JWBear 07-12-2009 12:17 PM

You're weird.

CoasterMatt 07-12-2009 12:52 PM

Now if anybody asks what color your car is, you can say "Gerard Butler's Spartan Blood Red" :D

Not Afraid 07-12-2009 01:22 PM

Oh, BTW, you are REQUIRED to bring your car to the cocktail party so we can all test drive it. ;)

JWBear 07-12-2009 01:26 PM

Good luck with that one... He won't even let me drive it!

Disneyphile 07-13-2009 10:02 AM

Love the new shiny! Congrats! :)

DreadPirateRoberts 07-13-2009 10:17 AM

They truly are and that's the reason the Miata has been the best selling roadster for the past 20 years. It's the best car I've driven in my life. (Sorry if I sound like a saleman, but I'm just being honest).

The car's center of gravity is where the driver sits which gives it 50/50 weight distribution. This gives them superior handling abiltiy and stability. The engineers weigh every internal part, then shave off grams of material in order to make it super lightweight.

Simply put, they are a joy to drive.

innerSpaceman 07-13-2009 06:44 PM

I thought naming machinery after women was the pastime of lonely straight men...

Nope. One of our cars is named. The other hasn't suggested a name for herself, and by this point isn't likely to.

Oh, trust me... Gay men do it to!

So - riddle me this. Why do cars get girl names?

If straight men name their cars after women - I would have supposed that gay men would name their car after some hunky guy. or does it have more to do with the curves reflecting a woman's curves?

JWBear 07-14-2009 09:08 AM

I guess it has something to do with ships being "she"s. It carries over to other forms of transportation too.

alphabassettgrrl 07-14-2009 09:33 AM

Of the cars I've had that have been personified:

1974 Gran Torino: "Tantor" / male
1980 Citation: not really named / male
1989 Tercel: "PutterCar" / male
1992 BMW: "Gabrielle" / female
2002 Honda CR-V: not named / female

Some of our cars have just seemed to be male, and some female.

Traditionally, straight men, alone at sea, or on tractors all day, or sweating under cars, name their machinery after women. They carve mermaids on the bow and paint bombshells on their planes. They say "c'mon baby" while trying to get the machinery to purr. It makes sense.

I've never felt that machines were females to me. To me, cars don't purr, they growl, they roar. The smells of grease and exhaust, and the power and muscle concepts evoke masculinity in my mind. It's sexy, but for different reasons. I translate it into something sexy for me - which again, makes sense.

I'm surprised to hear of gay men that see their sexy cars as female. Interesting.

€uroMeinke 07-14-2009 06:43 PM

My first car, Bwanna Devil, was a boy

I work alone. My computers and various legal databases typically bear the gender neutral name "You f*cking piece of sh*t!"

I have a pretty white Mixmaster that will take your arm off. Boy or girl?

I called my Subaru Justy "Justine." It could not have been otherwise. Same with a Miata. The Dukes of Hazzard called their Dodge Charger "The General Lee." That, too, fits.

"Mangler" is a unisex name...

Dig. I'm sure if I owned slinky Corvette or a Viper I'd be thinking of female names to match the curves.
