July 18th, 2009 (Queen Mary & Cocktail Party)
OK, so, we've got a plan.
Sometime in the afternoon (about 2 pm) people (WB Clan, Sam and Whomever) will be heading to The Long Beach Casa de Feline where we will then head to the Queen Mary for a tour and fun. In the evening (7pm-ish) there will be a cocktail party at Casa de Feline with our out of town guests. All are welcome to join any or all of the events. WB will be posting the QM Tour options so you can give your opinions on which you would prefer as well as an option to RSVP to the Cocktail Party. Sidecars included in the price of admission. ;) |
I GET TO MEET THURSTON!!!!

Queen Mary Swanking and Evening Cocktail Party - 7/18
We're plotting a Queen Mary Swanking for Saturday July 18th, at or around 2:00 ish. I'll post a poll to see which tour people may or may not be interested in, and we'll do majority rules. Below is a list of possible tours and their prices:
First Class Passage* Includes:
![]() ![]() Includes:
![]() ![]() Includes:
![]() ![]() Descend into the once forbidden confines of this genuine "Cold War Warrior". See the torpedo rooms, the cramped crew's quarters, the galley, machinery rooms and electronics spaces. See the lethal torpedo tubes and look through her actual attack periscope. See how life on board this "Podvodnaya Lodka" (Russian for Submarine) was lived as she "drilled holes in the ocean" performing her assigned duties and top secret missions. Includes:
![]() ![]() Enjoy both the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary in the same day, we offer a special value combined ticket package. Travel in ease between locations with transportation on the complimentary Passport Shuttle. Tickets may be purchased at the Queen Mary or at the Aquarium.
In addition, the Queen Mary also offers the Ocean Adventures Hotel Package that includes a stay in a family stateroom with accommodations for up to 2 adults and 2 children, complimentary tickets to Long Beach's Aquarium of the Pacific, complimentary admission to the Queen Mary's Ghost and Legends Show, and the Self-Guided Shipwalk Tour. Click Here Buy Combo Tickets on the Aquarium Website ![]() There are also discounted rates for groups over twenty, so if enough people are interested we can check into those as well. |
Unless you're really into cheesy "spook house" SFX, I'd recommend avoiding the Ghosts & Legends Tour (and everything associated with it). Sadly, it has taken over some interesting parts of the ship that you now can only see on this tour.
The Behind the Scenes is hit-or-miss; it all depends on what parts of the ship are available that day, and which tour guide you get. Ive been on great ones that took us to parts of the ship I've never seen, and ones where we were basically shown the same rooms that you see on the Self-Guided Tour. I've never been on the submarine, so I have no opinion on that one. |
Aww, sorry to miss this fun! I have baby birthday party and thankfully not at ChuckECheese this time!. HAve fun!!
|
Jeez! They're holding the LA Motorcycle Show again at the QM that weekend!
Those people trash the ship every year! Why do they still have them!?!? |
Maybe the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.
|
We're in for whatever. We took the twilight tour with the Rat's mom the day my condo closed. I had an extremely strong drink in the observation bar. It was most delicious.
|
Cruddy crud crud! This sounds like fun. And I'll be working.
|
This sounds lovely, and dad may be interested - but we're going to play by ear and see how we're feeling after a day at the park. (Is that OK, or do we have to have tickets in advance?)
|
The submarine was interesting. We didn't get the movie, just the going through the sub. I doubt we'll be up for this. I might be able to talk hubster into the cocktail party. We'll see.
|
I think I've done me too much Queen Mary in my life. I'd go along just for the ride, cause anything we do together turns out fun ... but I realize it's the first weekend of that minor film sensation ... Harry Freaking Potter ... and though I'll have seen it already, others I know and love will want to see it on Saturday.
So, i'm thinkin' I'll be doing that in the afternoon, and plan on joining everyone at the Cocktail Party afterwards. * * * * It's hard for me to enjoy the Queen Mary on a tour in retrospect to all the adventures I'd had there. My two faves were a wedding and a big New Years Eve party where a large group of us both times snuck below decks and wandered the tiny stairways, dank corridors and creeky catwalks above huge boilerooms in the bowels of the grand ship, all dressed in tuxedoes and gowns, playing Poseidon Adventure. HAHAHAHAHA fun. |
The fog of family doings lifts ever so briefly. See everyone at the cocktail party! :)

Have fun though everyone! Wish we could be there, but we have a prior commitment that day and evening. But, we should be seeing most of you Friday night or so. |
Alas, I have a big show that night and will not be able to join the fete. :(
|
Alas and alak (sp?), I also reget I will not be able to attend. Um, let's blame it on allergies.
|
Alas, we are moving that day and cannot join you. However, we will (hopefully) be having a housewarming party in the relatively near future. Woot!
|
L and I might possibly be up for cocktails, though that will be two days of cocktails in a row... if we end up not being able to make the 17th we'll come for this...

I am not going to commit for anything...
If the BF ends up in the pits at the Speedway/Okie Bowl, I just may escape and head down for the cocktail (non achoholic for me). hmmm.... |
Barring any I-5 closing fires, or trucks completly blocking the highway, I will be there. No drinking for me, since I will drive home that night.
Cookies anyone? |
Not looking good at this point. I have a golf outing that would prevent the queen mary outing, and we have a cemetery screening that night.
However, there are a lot of days between then and now. |
My class reunion is Saturday night so I'll be in Susanville at the Elks Club.
|
I believe Cousin, Marla, and I will be at the evening cocktail portion of the swanking...
|
I'm officially cleared to be around people again, but I'm not up for long outings, so just cocktails for us.
|
I'd better get cracking on plan, eh?
|
It might be a good idea.
|
Or planning on crack. You'd get it done faster that way.
|
Oh, I might attend if there's crack.
Or I might because Lisa was gracious enough to say all are welcome, a sentiment I appreciate very much. |
Can we all just RSVP or we're going to have really tiny cocktails. ;)
|
We'll be there.
|
I read it as:
Queen Mary Spanking and Evening Cocktail Party - 7/18 :D |
We're at the DLR right now- checked in, had dinner at Hooks, and are now in our jammies watching movies. Our room has a lovely view of the Neverland pool.:)
|
See you tomorrow, WB!
|
Humph.
wish I was there. Oh well. Have fun without me, why don't you? :p :D |

Have a great time WB and ToriB!
|
Don't worry Lash ... next year's the next (and last for a long while) BIG ONE.
Be here for that ... or forever be square. Disneyland '55 falls on a Saturday! Yes, the Park will be mobbed. But we'll have our Big Birthday Mega Suite, with a party going on for 55 straight hours!!! Today is practice, and we'll have a sweet time. Disneyland Birthday is always fun. |
I will have cookies!
|
Have fun, everyone! Wish I could be with you!
|
Judging by the complete lack of posts about it at 3am, I'm guessing this was a damn good party ;)
|
Last party guest just left - Coffee now the preferred cocktail of the moment

Woke up at 7. Went back to sleep at 9. Woke up at 11:30. Now feeling bad because I've dissed my good friends going on the quilt run. But, I'm exhausted. Chris is now taking his turn at napping. He cleaned most of the dishes while I was sleeping. I guess that means I have to mop the sticky floor.
And, in true form, a glass was broken. This time it was Charles and Twitter who broke it (mostly Charles' fault). We had Twitter visiting with Wolfey and Wolfette! He's such a cutie! He and Rupert became friends and he knew right away I was a dog lover. When the kits were in the cat room and Wolfy was out back, I became his surrogate - he jumped up on my lap and fell asleep. My house is officially too hot for get togethers now. We will resume sometime in October. |
Many thanks to you and Chris for hosting such a lovely soirée. I had a wonderful time. Much love,
s |
Sorry I didn't post when I got home. My DSL was down, and only now came back up.
I had a great time, totally worth the drive. It was wonderful meeting new people. My dive home was perfect, fast and uneventful. I pulled in the garage a tad before 3:30 (and that was with a pit stop in Castaic). Many thanks to the charming hosts. :) Scruffy could not stop licking and sniffing my toes that Scoundrel attached himself to. |
Oh that Scoundrel. Is really is a Scoundrel.
I have had Ginger cookies for breakfast, second breakfast and whatevermeal you call it after a nap. Chris has been doing his share on them as well. I think we're almost out. I'd better go get some more for dunch before he wakes up. |
Thank you to our wonderful hosts! It was great to see everyone. I'm sorry we couldn't stay longer. But "Cousin" has finally joined LoT and hopefully he'll actually post. I'm sure K will get on him about that.
|
Sorry I missed it - I was washing my hair. :p
Actually, I was at a party, so it almost felt like being there. |

What did you think of the other cookies? |
I thought the peanut butter ones were divine....didn't try the Ginger Cookies...darn!
|
I was eating some of the peanut butter ones last night. The butterscotch made them a little sweet for me but I love peanut butter cookies. I wonder what they would taste like using chocolate chips?
|
Or even better some Reese's Pieces.....
|
My boys like them with white chocolate chips. Because they are a drop cookie, more like a TollHouse than a typical peanut butter, any sort of chip would work.
