Great White Shart spotted off coast of Malibu

Shark Video Here

So who wants to go swimming at Pepperdine?

Alex 07-24-2009 08:12 PM

Do you people down there really refer to Malibu as "the 'bu"? Or is the anchor the only douche?

And, if I were one who swam in the ocean anyway, I wouldn't be much put off. Sharks are always around, you're just generally not aware of it.

alphabassettgrrl 07-24-2009 08:39 PM

It's Fox, so I don't expect much in accuracy. The shark's pretty though! (And the typo in the thread title makes me giggle)

Agreed on the sharks. Always around, usually not a problem. It's more dangerous to drive to the beach than to swim in the ocean.

flippyshark 07-24-2009 08:41 PM

I would want to go find it from a boat and then try to get pictures.

CoasterMatt 07-24-2009 08:55 PM

Actually, we were fairly close to there yesterday :)

I'm really afraid of what a Great White SHART would be though, and how it would be spotted in the ocean.

Not Afraid 07-24-2009 09:08 PM

I have not, nor will I ever refer to Malibu as "The Bu".

alphabassettgrrl 07-24-2009 09:18 PM

Nice picture, Matt!

Ghoulish Delight 07-24-2009 09:20 PM

The anchor is surely not the ONLY douche, but I had never heard that before.

I laughed my ass off at the laptop-on-the-arm-of-the-couch webcam interview with the "expert".

D'OOOOH!

<smacks self in forehead>

innerSpaceman 07-25-2009 01:13 PM

I live pretty close to the 'bu,' but have never once heard it called that.

Had plans to beach it in Santa Monica today and have my first summer swim in the ocean, but those got scaled back this morning ... and not because of the shart.

flippyshark 07-25-2009 01:17 PM

Just call me Flippyshart

innerSpaceman 07-25-2009 01:32 PM

Is that like one of those handly flip charts?

Cadaverous Pallor 07-25-2009 03:54 PM

"Shart" sounds like an unfortunate potty accident.

SzczerbiakManiac 07-25-2009 04:25 PM

it is

flippyshark 07-25-2009 04:55 PM

Oof - okay, let's not call me Flippyshart.

Alex 07-25-2009 06:44 PM

Dang, I was going to let you all have fun with shart for a while.

blueerica 07-26-2009 10:56 AM

Haha, I was wondering if "shart" was noticed.

Strangler Lewis 07-26-2009 10:59 AM

I guess if I knew there was a great white shart where people swim, I would probably try to avoid it.

RStar 07-26-2009 11:56 AM

Oh, and here I'd been calling it Farit all these years....

I just watched "Malabu Shark Attack" on SyFy (The new lame name for the SciFi channel) last night. Stupid movie with impecible timing.....

flippyshark 07-26-2009 12:05 PM

Oh, I just LOVED (as in loved rolling my eyes at) Malibu Shark Attack. It's empty-headed "hope Dad doesn't find out about me spending Spring Break with that hunky boy" plot had me shaking my head to see if I had any brain matter left at all.

Yes, I will watch any movie that has sharks. I can hardly wait to see Mega Shark Vs. Giant Octopus with Deborah Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas (who has already starred in a lame shark movie or two).

flippyshark 07-26-2009 12:10 PM

My current shark movie holy grail is the Bollywood production Aataank - a Jaws ripoff complete with romance and musical numbers. It's all but impossible to come by, but there are a few tasty clips on YouTube.

flippyshark 07-26-2009 12:11 PM

And now, I have to take back my next to last post - I was thinking of Spring Break Shark Attack. i've actually never seen or heard of Malibu Shark Attack. Sheesh, another bad shark movie I need to go find.

Wow, that is BAD.

Moonliner 07-26-2009 08:02 PM

If you go diving off the coast of Australia I hear they have queef sharts.

lashbear 07-26-2009 10:25 PM

I'll make sure you get to see one, Moonie. ;)

BarTopDancer 07-26-2009 10:39 PM

Here Sharky Sharky Sharky!!!!!

Wonder if it is one of the ones that the MB Aquarium had. They kept them in a pen off Malibu for awhile before bringing them to the aquarium.

Flippy - The shark octopus movie looks horrible. Have you read the Meg series? I believe our own 3894 got me hooked on them. Campy awful fun. There are 4 books in the series.

I have read the first three - Honestly, I was stunned by how awful the first book was, but it was a really entertaining kind of awful. (Steve Alten seems to agree - he rewrote the first book for subsequent publication. I haven't read this revised version yet.) The Trench was just deadly dull to me, but that didn't stop me from reading the third book, Primal Waters, which I enjoyed a lot more, in spite of its breathless present tense narrative device. So, guilty pleasures indeed, and I will get around to Hell's Aquarium soon. I'm not proud. That said, I would be first in line if they really made a big budget MEG movie - an event that seems to get less and less likely all the time.

Stan4dSteph 07-27-2009 08:04 AM

I enjoyed Judah Friedlander's live-tweeting of Malibu Shark Attack.

SacTown Chronic 07-28-2009 05:01 PM

That's a Not Afraid quality typo!

I'll never forget my first shart attack.

Oh, maybe I should put the revised book on my to-read list. I know Hell's Aquarium is going to be just as campy/bad as the rest but I want to see how it ends, or supposedly ends. And I'd be in line to see the big budget MEG movie too, in it's awful glory.

I spotted a Tiger Shart (make sure you read to the end)

If the Amazon reviews are any indication, Hell's Aquarium will not be the end.

Both movies have been on SciFi all weekend.

They are beyond terrible yet I couldn't turn either of them off.

If only I had known, it would have been a party.
