Overnight Stay at the Haunted Mansion

I so wish I was a kid, or had a kid now, just so I could enter:

lashbear 08-01-2009 05:55 AM

I'd love to do it, but I wonder if the stretch room will be in the Up or Down position? If up, then not too thrilling, if down, then I wonder how far through the loading area you can roam?

One day they'll do a contest to win a walk-through of the mansion, and see how quickly I get over there then !!!

innerSpaceman 08-01-2009 09:02 AM

I'm almost glad I can't enter. It would be so nervewracking.

As you might imagine, spending the night inside the Haunted Mansion would be, well, dream come true is too weak a phrase.

Also, as you might imagine, if anyone could find a way out of the chamber with no windows and no doors to explore the Haunted Mansion alone in the middle of darkest night .... it would be ME.

I guess making me constipated wouldn't make the cut ;)

“The Haunted Mansion is 40 years old and, like any building its age, it may be full of creaks and other eerie noises throughout the night,” according to Himmelberg. “The guests may also be visited by the ‘occupants’ of the Haunted Mansion.”
Hmm, wonder if that suit of armor might take a walk...

I'd assume they have to provide a restroom all night long....which would mean they have to leave a door open, to somewhere. The thought of an Andy Gump sitting in the foyer is rather horrifying, but it's all I can think of.

Another thought is that a basic safety rule with elevators is that when they aren't in use they should be at their bottom level. Hmm.

Though I wasn't involved in Disneyana then, it was only a year or so after 1999 that I heard about the dinner held in the Mansion to celebrate it's 30th anniversary and was able to wish I had been there. I've been an APer for nearly 10 years now!

We're already talking about your bowel movements??

Gotta love those Extra Iron Pregger vitamins.

Two words - Bran Muffins.

innerSpaceman 08-01-2009 03:44 PM

The Haunted Mansion has been known to scare the sh!t out of little kids, but I don't see how that will help just now.

We'll let that one slide. Next time, we just might have to pass Morrigoon's TMI torch over to you. :p

...I thought the point of being constipated is that it doesn't sli... Oh. That's not what you meant. Sorry.

alphabassettgrrl 08-02-2009 07:56 AM

This would be beyond awesome. Too bad we don't have a kid! (when's the last time you heard me say something like that???)

Having to pee all of the time will soon even things out. ;)

They'll probably do what they did when we did the SeaWorld sleepovers. They have a cast member stationed at the door and they escort you to the closest restroom and back should you need to go.

Too bad Madz is 13 - too old - drat.

Hey, a person's gotta be known for SOMETHING in this world ;)

dlrp_bopazot 08-03-2009 03:05 PM

Haunted Mansion Sleepover at Disneyland: There are several hours of webcam videos from the contest winners' night, including a few visits from singing Hitchhiking Ghosts, bedtime stories from a butler, and the dad blogging/chatting online throughout the night.

Too jealous to click.

blueerica 08-19-2009 10:04 AM

Too "at work" to click.

Gn2Dlnd 08-19-2009 11:20 AM

Former Custodial Host here: There's a cast member restroom inside the Mansion, behind the portrait hallway. I'll bet they decorated it up and created a super secret haunted backstage pathway.

lashbear 08-19-2009 05:08 PM

So, it could have been a bedroom anywhere with the load hallway spiel playing in the background.

Real geeks would prefer the hallway "as is" rather than done up like "Haunted Mansion meets My Little Pony"

innerSpaceman 08-19-2009 05:32 PM

Sigh, I don't know if I can click either. Either way, I'll have to content myself with the two look-arounds Isaac and I had during two separate over-lay conversions ... once through the unguarded Front Door, and once through the "secret" unguarded Crypt Entrance.

RStar 08-19-2009 09:42 PM

Because of the poor lighting, it's not much to look at. It appears the elevator is in the down position, and the doors are open to the hallway. The area just outside of the hallway is decorated as well as the elevator. At least thats what it looks like to me. The hitch hiking ghosts were pretty good!

The decorated area their bedroom is in is actually the elevator. Behind them is a doorway, where you can see the drapery of the hallway.

When the Hitchhiking Ghosts show up, the kids call each ghost by name. Kinda warms my spooky beating heart to know that these people are real geeks.

"No, Al Lutz, I'm not going to do a shout out to you. MouseInfo, you all rock..."

Cadaverous Pallor 08-20-2009 07:51 AM

BTW, the decor is actually pretty rad. The older girl mentions that her bed is actually a coffin. Doesn't get better than that.

Gotta give it to Disney, they went all out for this. Love hearing the more rarefied sound effects, including the unused stuff you only hear on crazy collector albums (thanks iSm!). Multiple scary bedtime stories, multiple serenades by the Hitchhikers.
