April 8 Ticket Day for Disney Gallery 50-Hour Event
So, word is that the Disney Gallery website, begining this coming Friday, April 8, 2005, will be offering for sale tickets to some kind of 50-hour event to take place from July 15 through 17.
Is this the eagerly anticipated 50-Hour party? Or is it a merchandise event where, for a mere eight grand, you can have the right to purchase oodles of crap after eight behind-the-scenes meals inside various attractions? Does anyone have any advance information on what this offering will be? If it IS the 50-hour party, how much is a fair price to pay, in your opinion? |
My fantasy: $50 (in keeping with the whole anniversary thing)
I guess it all depends on what the "event" turns out to be. If they're locking the gates to all but hard ticket holders at a certain point on the weekend, I fear I'm going to pay whatever they ask. If we're sitting across the street from DL and some exclusive party is going on in the park, I'll be jealous and sad. I'm prepared to open my wallet to the Mouse. I hope it's worth it. |
If they have it, I will spend
|
Haven't heard a thing about it but I'd pass. Probably out of my spending league. :(
|
They have started offering (for a price, of course) special merchandise add-ons with the WDT packages.....what, is the whole anniversary just going to be one big, blatant merchandising event? When is the last time anyone went to a birthday party and discovered it was an Amway event in disguise?
Yeah, but being the curious sheep that I am, I'd probably buy into it. (If the cost wasn't too prohibitive). |
Info's up.
|
And we're going for........ (drumroll).......... nothing!
We got our hotel rezzies, our APs... we'll see you all there. But we won't be dining on The Mark Twain or any of the "value added" crap. These might be nice: · Reserved Seating at the “My Favorite Magical Memories” Panel Discussion Opportunity to attend a portion of the 2005 Disney Legend Induction Experience but NOTHING is worth the ridiculous prices... |
:weeping:
|
So sad. So very, very sad.
At least we have merchandise. |
Anyone want to join me in recreating the Yippie take-over of Tom Sawyer Island as a tribute to the 50th?
|
Sounds like a plan, Mr. Meinke

I read the 'event' line-up, and it really just pissed me off. If this is all they offer, I can't help but think there will be some sort of backlash. We may be Disney geeks, but we're not stupid. Well, okay- we're still Disney geeks, even after all this sort of crap has been pulled on us, so maybe we are stupid. I wonder how many rooms they have blocked out for this? "Sold-out", my ass. |

Sure, that sounds like fun...as long as we all wear berets. |
CosterMatt's AIM response to me was perfectly succinct:
"What a heap a horse shyt!" |

I've got a raspberry beret!

You know, that Fess Parker event looks interesting......
 |
Does someone have a link to what y'all are talking about? :)
|
I wonder if Roy has any special events planned that day?

Hmmm....I guess you'll be needing a coonskin beret for that one. :p |

This link is about another theme park celebrating an anniversary this year. Granted, Dollywood is only turning 20, they decided to kick off their year with a special surprise. The 1600 people gathered for a preview show of the Moscow Circus, will each receive "Platinum Passes" - free admission and free parking to Dollywood and it's neighboring waterpark, for the next 20 years. The people who received these passes were just visitors to the park, appreciating the park, and appreciated BY the park. |

Read it and weep. Literally. But, um, what did we expect? Oh, I know what we hoped for, but what did we expect? |

Where's the "Walt spinning in his grave so fast he generates electricity to light up the castle" package?

I admit, I expected more than this load of "horse shyt". I also know that expectations lead to resentments and, yes, I am resenting Disneyland Event Services right now. |
July 15 - I'm still planning on wearing a spacesuit and refractive lenses to go ride Space Mountain
|
I was hoping it would be something unlike this, but I knew better. Think there is any chance they will do anything else- anything????

I don't see how the event and their ambiguity is going to find any takers, I mean - tast of the resort? Certainly none of us APers will be biting on that one. Lame. Just lame. I still will hold out some hope that on 5/5 they might announce the 50-hour party I long for. But I won't be holding my breath. |
In a word...lame.
|
Oookay.
So, APs will get you into the park? There's no extended hours? All I care about is being able to get in. The rest is bullshyt. |
I'm still hoping for extended hours. Maybe a hard ticket. Just not a "merch event".
I can imagine a bunch of hung-over LoTers lingering around the French Market while the 190 guests eat their "special breakfasts". We can lean over the railing ... "Whatchoo eatin'?" |
Maybe for like $1000 they'll put you in a genuine Skybucket, and let you spit on the crowds while scissor-lifted over Fantasyland?
|
Crap....literally!
|
I was just looking at the number of people these events will "hold":
Walt's Dream - 50 Roy's Plan - 50 Lillian's Inspiration - 140 Imagineer's Quest - 750 That's a maximum of 990 people participating in the 50th "events". Max revenue generation is Walt's Dream - $97,750 Roy's Plan - $87,500 Lillian's Inspiration - $105,000 Imagineer's Quest - $371,250 Or $661,500 Gross revenue (Approx. 13,500 day guests). Boggles the mind. Edit to add: If they sold 10,000 50th Anniversary extended hours event tickets at $100 each, they'd bring in $1,000,000 on admission alone. |
unbelievable

The sad part is that all of the packages will probably be sold out in the first 5 hours.

Plus, they could add tons of merch only available after hours. Special pins, shirts etc. I'm pretty sure Disney makes a profit on those things, too.
|
but of course, I am not saying they wouldn't be profitable.....its just the weenies in corporate must not think it is profitable enough for them.....too bad they don't seem to understand the loss in opportunity cost that could come from not doing something special like a 50 hour party, the goodwill gained would be invaluable......stupid number crunching weenies.
|
These packages don't even include accomodations on the night of the 17th...and furthermore if you look at the fine print stuff they tell you that the resort hotels are all booked that night! What an amazing lack of foresight to not have blocked out some rooms on the 17th! "Come to our party and then go stay elsewhere!"
I used to be marketing manager for a casino and would have been crucified by corporate if I had planned an event like this and hadn't set aside rooms for THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT! *shakes head* It boggles the mind. I mean its great for those who got rooms for that night without having to give up a first born for the packages..but for those ponying up, not so much. |
Hey!
According to this site, they've added a bit cheaper option, called "Goofy's Shaft" - sounds like a bargain! ;) |
Hmmm...

I'm holding out for the Eisner: (One Man's) Dream package, myself. Stocked up on Mylanta and ready to party!:snap: |
How about he "Pressler Legacy", which includes a tour of WoD, a stop at a glow cart, and a seminar with ex-maintanance CMs that explores exactly how many lightbulbs can burn out on each ride before enough people notice to do something about it as well as the concept of an ACR (Acceptable Casualty Rate)?
|
Lol, GD!:D

How much should I charge for it? $19.55? |
