The SacTowns, Scrooge McSam & GC Invade SoCal in December

This is kind of wayyy in advance but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to be making a trip to SoCal during the first week of December. Dec 1 thru Dec 8. I wanted my visit to coincide with the SoCal visit of the SacTowns and Mr. Scrooge McSam. I can't wait to meet them in person after all these years.

I will be spending the first couple of days in Burbank assisting my friend with some family doings and to help her train her new puppy that will be arriving about the same time. Lucky for her, I am potty trained. Then for the latter half of the trip I will be in the Disneyland area, lodging with Mr. McSam. Other than lodging half in Burbank and half in Anaheim, all other plans are up in the air. So, we'll have to meet up, do the park, have parties and catch up irl...

So, there it is. Can't wait. I'm feeling so danged burned out right now with work, theatre and family. I hope everyone will be around at that time.

:)

wolfy999 09-08-2009 05:54 AM

Yay....can't wait!

1. See my friend Steph's new dog.
2. See Joe's new dog.
3. Play with Thurston.
4. Eat at In-N-Out.
5. Go to the park.
6. See everybody.

Gemini Cricket 09-24-2009 06:14 PM

I was looking at some of Werner Weiss's pictures of Disneyland in 1955. I think for one of my trips to the park, I'm going to dress up in 50's wear. Hair grease, tie, dress slacks and dress shoes, the works. Anyone want to join me? I figure we can find some spots at the park that still look like it did and we can take some 'vintage' photos.

VGCM. Reading this makes me grin.

Uhhh, 50's wear? Dunno if I have anything that would work...

I just looked up 1950's pregnancy clothes and YEECH. Parachutes and housecoats and capes, oh my.

JWBear 09-25-2009 08:54 AM

I don't know, CP... The blue number could be rather fetching.

So... How did I completely miss this thread until now? Brad! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not huge on retro clothing these days (I'm just huge IN it, hah) no matter the decade.

Regarding the blue outfit specifically - I've never liked capris for various reasons, and the comparison between the short bottom and the voluminous top makes me think of things like umbrellas and parachutes. Notice how in the drawing, her actual belly looks flat. That is not how it would hang on a pregnant person.

Remember how Lucille Ball looked in her very fashionable, very expensive 50's preg clothes?

There's absolutely no shape to these outfits and they look terrible to me. The stigma of showing the shape of the belly itself was very prevalent then.

Gemini Cricket 09-25-2009 01:06 PM

I loved how William Holden dressed in Sabrina. The hat and all that. I that movie was 1954.

I'm making a list for my trip to Disneyland. I haven't been in more than a year an it's driving me nuts.

Check out the following:

1. Sleeping Beauty Castle walk thru
2. TSI Graveyard
3. DCA construction
4. New Disneyland Gallery
5. New characters in IASW

:)

I'd heard Thanksgiving as the end date, but then I'd trust iSm's live-in Disneycyclopedia over my knowledge if he knows something different.

Morrigoon 10-21-2009 02:29 PM

Just thought I'd add that I'm planning on trying to make Saturday the 5th my performance night in a certain candle-lit Christmas show. Of course in the end it comes down to being accommodated, but we generally get our choice (now cross fingers that scheduling complies)

innerSpaceman 10-21-2009 02:58 PM

I'll ask the living Disneycyclopedia when I get home. But wouldn't it be ludicrous to not have Fantasmic during, at the very least, weekends of the Christmas season??

Since when is "ludicrous" an excluding factor for a decision by Disney?

The Thanksgiving date I have is from Al's update, for what it's worth.

Scrooge McSam 10-22-2009 08:08 AM

No Murphy? Bah!

I'm like you, GC. I've got dozens of things I need to see, but I somehow drift into "I'm at Disneyland and nothing else matters" mode and never get to everything.

Oh well... what better reason is there to keep going back?

innerSpaceman 10-22-2009 09:46 AM

I didn't see the Disneylandcycopedia last night. Work on the Halloween party sometimes keeps us apart in the evenings. I'll see what I can find out today. I'll be crushed if all the cool December visitors miss the awesomeness that is Murphy.

Head's Up.

While all of you fine people are in town, we will be holding a Baby Shower - co-ed of course - on Sunday December 5th. I thought that weekend was too dull. (Actually, it is the only possible date.) Good for you and good for our little Disquieting Metamorphosis.

Sunday is the 6th (The Boy's b-day).

Cadaverous Pallor 10-31-2009 08:08 AM

MG, you're right. The shower is set for Sunday the 6th.

DM, GD and I are very excited to see everyone. :)

wendybeth 10-31-2009 08:19 AM

I'm disappointed I can't be there for the baby shower, but feel very honored to have been there for the announcement! :)

innerSpaceman 10-31-2009 08:43 AM

Does this mean out-of-towners Disneyland Meet day is Saturday, December 5th?

That would be uber-appropriate, since it's - ya know - Walt's Birthday! :D

Mousey Girl 10-31-2009 01:16 PM

I am not sure if I will be able to make it on the 6th. It depends on The Boy's dad, and if I can get him early on that day and bring him with me. We are doing his b-day stuff today (The Old People leave next week and won't be back until Christmas).

Is there a time set?

SacTown Chronic 11-19-2009 07:09 PM

Yeah, I'm getting excited too.

We're bringing my mom - she's flying in from Wisconsin - with us. Her name is Yvonne and she's taking Josh's place as the 5th member of the SacTown Clan for this trip. She hasn't been to Disneyland since, um, around 1982 or so. She knew nothing of DCA, the Grand Cal, and Downtown Disney until I told her this summer. Also, she has never stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, so she's pretty excited about doing that. Her LoT cred is that she went to Disneyland the year it opened.

So if you've ever wanted to go up to my mom and ask "Why? For the love of God, why?", now's your chance.

Scrooge McSam 11-19-2009 11:30 PM

I want to be - desperately - but it's just not coming yet.

I think when GC starts posting from CA it will hit me.

I am kinda curious to meet Yvonne though.

And I have no idea what to do about the shower. I've never been to one... ever.

Not Afraid 11-19-2009 11:33 PM

I think the party will be 75% shower virgins, so you'll be in good company. Being co-ed (and populated with non-breeders) rest assured that this won't be a standard shower...

I find it perfectly offensive that time is going by slower now that the trip is coming up. Slow slow slow.

I'm also not thrilled that the DLR will be all decked out in Xmas doings while I'm there. Too cluttered. Too claustrophobic... Oh well. No, I take that back. I'm thrilled to be there at any time.

I envision a HUGE crowd at the hub, or esplanade, all stading with arms open wide (and handcuffs to steal GC back from HI).

So, no DL meet then? Holiday season means many commitments. I've been holding this open, but if there's no need, I'll move on to the next offering.

BarTopDancer 12-01-2009 11:46 PM

Pru - other than the shower nothing official has been planned as a group meet. At least that I know about. But it's highly possible I was snubbed from something.

The shower sort of took priority since it was scheduled at the same time.

Anyone that wants to meet at DL will be welcomed with open arms.

Anyone that wants my cell number, PM me.

I'll be at the resort by 3PM on Saturday (can't speak for GC or the SacFam). If I had to guess, I'd say we'll probably be in the park the rest of Saturday, and then again Sunday after the shower.

ALL ARE WELCOME

SacTown Chronic 12-02-2009 08:05 AM

Besides, it leaves it open for a sequel. In the grand style of Little Mermaid II, Aurora's daughter has insomnia, and longs for the day when she too can be pricked to sleep. Anne Rice produces.

If Maleficent died, how do you explain Fantasmic!?

It's a prequel
(Might ask the same thing about the Wicked Queen from Snow White)

I cooked up a better answer - it's all about imagination anyway, so none of them need to be alive.

One could argue that at the very least the Wicked Queen must exist, as she starts the mischief, but I'd say that she's just a face for the darker side of Mickey's subconscious.

Wow. So much fun packed into two days. Chills, thrills, even a MickeyLumbo sighting. Thanks to everyone who played a part, no matter how brief, in making such fantastic memories. Special thanks to Gemini Cricket - or Rad Brad, as my kids call him - and Scrooge McSam for all they did for our family this weekend. Your kindness, warmth, and generosity won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Scrooge McSam 12-09-2009 04:50 PM

Now how am I supposed to grumble about my trip home after that?

Vent post squash, ftw

Big hugs to everybody that came out, both to the shower and to the park.

Jason and Brad - you my bros

Crystal - try not to get hotter before i see you next. You're wrecking the curve, gurl.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 12-09-2009 05:31 PM

I missed everyone! Sucks. :( Next time!

Crystal 12-10-2009 05:26 PM

What an AMAZING trip! It was so nice to meet Brad, Audra, Eric, and Lianne, and of course to see familiar faces again...Sam, Steve, Isaac, and, unbelievably, MickeyLumbo!!!!

Brad and Sam, you made this trip extra special and the kids and I will hold the memories close, thank you for everything!

Sorry I missed the baby shower, but Mom needed me! I hear it was awesome and I am glad that Jason and Todd were able to attend.

Thanks again to all of you who helped make this trip so memorable!

Gemini Cricket 12-10-2009 08:47 PM

Well, I had just about the funnest trip ever. I had a super time. It was great seeing everyone again.

It was such an honor meeting Sam and Crystal and her family. ;) (That was for SacTown. lol) There were so many highlights to this trip that they are too numerous to mention all of them.

I really had a great time talking with SacTown. He's really funny and is such a cool guy. He has one of those interesting Sacramento accents, too. But if you ask me, it's a southern Sacramento accent. :D

Crystal is just fabulous and I love her. Honestly one of the coolest moms on the planet. I blame her for my current addiction: coffee. She knows why. lol

The SacKids are smart, funny and quite mature for their ages. Sac's daughter is not allowed to date until she's 29. So pretty. And his younger son is going to be a scientist or veterinarian someday. So smart. I had fun riding Splash with them at 8pm at night with the weather being like 40 degrees F. We didn't get wet, thankfully. :) The SacMom was cool, too. I loved talking with her. She loooooved Soarin', Screamin' and Fantasmic!

What a great guy ScroogeMcSam is! We hit it off right away. We made the best roommates. We sat up all night doing each other's hair, making Smores and telling ghost stories. And there was nothing blue about our trip to the House of Blues. We flirted with a cute waiter who was a renegade from a 70's tv movie and we laughed a lot. A lot! A biiiig thank you for him for making this all possible!

And another thing, I didn't think anyone knew more about the Simpsons than Isaac/zapppop. SacTown knows everything about the show. We were quoting our favorite episodes for three days straight.

Sam and the SacTowns made my time in Disneyland wonderful. It was great riding attractions with them.

I was glad to spend Disney time with Sublagoon, innerSpaceman, Isaac, Eliza Hodgkins and the Nirvanaman, too.

I saw CoasterMatt briefly. It was weird going to USH without him. There were only 2000 people there the day we went. Totally empty.

The Ghoulish Pallor shower was wonderful. I'm glad I got to see everybody. I still think my doo-doo baby got the shaft. Fix!

:)

As Lot is my witness, if we are so priveleged to room together ever again, you get to be the warrior king and I get to be the trusted servant boy sleeping at the foot of your bed, or as close an approximation as I can muster. Deal?

WE? Pfft! WE did not ply the young man with promises of succulent roasted meat. Only one of us did that.

I might have flirted a little... barely worth even mentioning, really. :D

Meeting and spending time with you was easily one of the highlights of the whole trip. I'm so glad you had a good time.

Suck it, macadamia man! There can be only one champion worthy of the "Baking Is Gay!" trophy towel. I am that champion.

One thing I learned this trip: Steakhouse 55 is the place to go for breakfast. Good call, Sam.

(I also learned that a dragon can ignite a river without breathing fire out of its mouth.)

Thanks for having my back. Good to know I'm not being unreasonable.

Gemini Cricket 12-11-2009 11:25 AM

Steakhouse 55 has great pancakes. I ate four of them. The best I've had in awhile. And Snowflake will love the vintage photos all over the place. So awesome.
:)

Dragons fart fire, too.

In case the younger boy SacKid checks this thread, I had to brag about my Buzz score.
:D

SacTown Chronic 12-14-2009 10:52 AM

Todd is the worst lazer shot I have ever seen. I think that Buzz score is an improvement for him.

Okay, good, I wasn't sure if you were using his name or not on discussion board doings.

I told Todd all the Buzz Lightyear secrets I know that Isaac told me. I think his next ride might be even better!
:)

Gemini Cricket 12-14-2009 01:16 PM

This is mostly for ScroogeMcSam but...

Remember how I had 'Africa' by Toto in my head for no reason at the Disneyland Hotel? It's funny because the '12 Days of Christmas' by Straight No Chaser features that song. Just saying. Your Michael sings Toto, too.
:D

Gemini Cricket 12-27-2009 03:17 AM

Okay, I recently found my digital camera. I got some great shots of the SacFamily.
Love them all to pieces. I miss them so much.

One more of me and lindyhop.
:)

I'm sad I didn't get any shots with Scrooge McSam.

Gemini Cricket 12-27-2009 03:47 AM

Here's a poor man's version of a ride photo.
The SacKids and me.
We three rode it twice.
I think they rode it like five times.
:)

CoasterMatt 12-27-2009 09:41 AM

I'm sad that other than a few brief moments with GC, I missed out on all the fun. :(

wolfy999 12-27-2009 09:54 AM

Don't feel bad Matt, at least you got to see him. I was out of town, so missed him completely!

Not Afraid 12-27-2009 11:44 AM

I saw them all at my house and didn't get to talk to any of them much. That was my only opportunity. :(

Gemini Cricket 12-27-2009 12:02 PM

Yeah, it was such a quick trip. But it was the only amount of time I could get from work. If I had taken longer, I would have never made up my hours.

Yeah, I had withdrawals from the trip soon after. I miss everybody. I miss the park, too.

But, I'm getting myself fixed up so longer trips can be in my budget. So, it's not all bad.

:)

SacTown Chronic 12-29-2009 01:07 PM

Laughing, glaring, glaring, laughing....my kids say that four-picture sequence nailed me perfectly, GC.:D

We all miss you too. Here's the kids' updated "if mom and dad ever split up" step-dad wish list:

Scott
Sam
Rad Brad

What, the step-dad traditionally comes when the mom re-marries? Not around here, he doesn't.

We have an empty calendar and an empty bank account, so we're half way to seeing ya'll again.
