MouseAdventure Reindeer Games - Dec. 12th

So, Ken and I are playing. Anyone else? :)

Info

(Btw, I heard that Andrew wrote that little prose. Nice!! :snap: )

BarTopDancer 09-14-2009 12:28 PM

I'm not sure why he thinks that the Ducks need people to buy snacks for them. I'm pretty sure they are paid enough to buy their own.

Oh, and I have no idea if the Shiny Happy People are playing.

Ghoulish Delight 09-14-2009 01:32 PM

Well, CP definitely wants the excuse to make an MA maternity shirt. And it would be nice to have a legitimate excuse for taking it easy and not being competitive. Definitely interested.

innerSpaceman 09-14-2009 02:00 PM

Isn't it sold out already?

I don't have the current number but it was 50% full around three hours ago.

Ghoulish Delight 09-14-2009 02:17 PM

Are Masters comped for this one?

Yes. It's not an "invitational" so the usual rules apply. I'm looking forward to the Haunts' holiday shirts!

I can only imagine what she'll come up with! :D

wolfy999 09-14-2009 06:05 PM

Make sure you guys have a meet-up afterwards...OK?

The Cuties sucked so bad on our first attempt, I don't think we'll ever join up again.

But drinks after are good!

Oh, heck yeah! Egg nog can make it even merrier! :D

Cadaverous Pallor 09-14-2009 07:07 PM

Email is off to AVP. Hope we made it in.

Prudence 09-14-2009 09:40 PM

We are in. Two MAs in a month - it might kill me.

Cadaverous Pallor 09-14-2009 09:52 PM

Yay, we are in. Thanks Andrew.

One more MA...before the baby, just before our APs lapse (for what will probably be a while), and only for fun.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-17-2009 04:47 PM

Playing!! Nic, Robin, Mindy and Me!!

innerSpaceman 09-17-2009 04:49 PM

One of my teammates couldn't possibly play on a retail Christmas Saturday, plus I remembered I'm going to be out of town (in San Francisco).

Have fun everyone! You've escaped the latest suckitude of the once-immortal Denton Affair!

Eliza Hodgkins 1812 09-17-2009 04:51 PM

NM and I discussed and decided not to add to the holiday stress so we're a no-go for this round. Enjoy!

Ghoulish Delight 09-17-2009 05:01 PM

Aaaaaan, we're blocked that day :(

But it's also literally the day before our passes expire, and seeing as we will soon after have even less time to go to the park than we did this year, we will not be renewing for the forseeable future. So perhaps a couple of blockout passes will be money well spent.

innerSpaceman 09-17-2009 05:07 PM

But remember, kids get in Free for the 1st three years!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-17-2009 05:16 PM

If I ever have kids, they'll be there the day they're born...

Alex 09-17-2009 05:39 PM

And they'll have fun dammit! Whether they want to or not!

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 09-17-2009 06:09 PM

I think we could easily slip a new born onto Splash Mtn and then hold them up as we go over.

If Baby Moses can handle a water ride, so can my kid...

:P

Add in that we don't have to pay for the event and it's an even better deal.

A sucky though wonderfully ironic end to our AP run.

BarTopDancer 09-18-2009 11:33 AM

We're out this time. Too much going on in December.

Stan4dSteph 09-18-2009 01:26 PM

I might come out to staff, I might not.

The Lovely Mrs. tod 09-20-2009 06:32 PM

The Parking Lot Memorial Society has been considering a return to competition. We haven't counted all the votes yet though...

Mousey Girl 09-22-2009 09:20 PM

The Boy and I will be playing for the first time.

belleh5 09-29-2009 10:26 PM

We won't be playing MA again unitl next fall(maybe).

Have fun!!

Ghoulish Delight 10-13-2009 01:58 PM

I'm sad to announce we are going to have to withdraw from Reindeer Games :( Far too many other commitments coinciding.

innerSpaceman 10-13-2009 03:09 PM

I know there's a Rudolph joke in there somewhere, but my brain is too fried.

Cadaverous Pallor 10-13-2009 04:33 PM

This is seriously one of those "we were not meant to be there" moments.

1. I work that day. I thought I had checked, but I either hadn't or I got the day wrong.

2. It's Hanukkah that weekend.

3. It's a day we're blocked. (BTW, I hereby state that buying a SoCal pass was the biggest mistake of my APer career. What a frustration and waste of money.)

Perhaps I could accuse the staffers of being anti-semitic (;)), but eh, while 2 and 3 could be dealt with, the real sticking point is that I work that day and I already take too many Saturdays off. I guess with SoCal being blocked on both Saturday and Sunday, you guys wanted to have it on a Saturday, which is understandable.

Nonetheless, I am :(.

DisneyDaniel 12-11-2009 04:05 PM

If anyone is still thinking about competing in MouseAdventure Holiday: Reindeer Games on Saturday, December 12, 2009, my team has room for TWO more people.

We registered early on for a team of four people (with the team member's names to be determined). Another friend (who does not post here on LoT) and I make two people, and we have room for two more.

We're meeting at 8:30 a.m. at Mickey & Friends Parking Structure, in front of the restrooms/underneath the escalators. We will then walkover together to Paradise Pier Hotel to check-in around 9 a.m.

MouseAdventure Holiday: Reindeer Games on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost: Asking $15 per person to help split the registration cost. We will even give you a free, new team T-shirt to wear since it's last minute.

Team Name: The Disney Ninjas. We won first place last time in the non-competitive "MouseAdventure Spring 2009: Day at the Park" event.

If anyone is interested in joining our team, please post something here or send a PM, so we know in advance. Thanks!

Below is our team photo for "The Disney Ninjas" from MouseAdventure Spring 2009: Day at the Park, so you can see our T-shirt design, for anyone who wants to know how it looks like:

RStar 12-12-2009 10:56 PM

Well, it looks like it was quite the wet day for the RAINdeer :D Games. At least it wasn't 102°F like most MouseAdventures! ;)

katiesue 12-12-2009 11:11 PM

It POURED most of the day. But it was really fun to see how the "dark side" works. Thanks again Andrew for letting me help out.

Prudence 12-13-2009 02:55 PM

We had some fun, as we always do, but honestly, if it rains that badly again on MA day, we're staying home.

When it comes time for post-event discussion, we definitely have some comments on what we liked and what we didn't.

Although what I liked the most is that the miserable conditions got me off the competitive wagon. When I was drenched, it was getting dark, and we were on main street only half-way through the word search, it was awfully nice to say: you know what? We might have an hour left, but I think I'm ready to turn stuff in now.

Bornieo: Fully Loaded 12-13-2009 03:26 PM

We ended up canceling and didn't drive down to join our group for the game. Not terrible conditions for enjoying DL but not worth trugging thru for MA.

Alex 12-13-2009 04:06 PM

Not speaking for the current runners of the game, but from past experience in that role.

Unfortunately there are so many sunk costs with MouseAdventure that any kind of postponement really isn't possible. I always took great pains to emphasize it would be rain or shine (and minor earthquake and god smiting) but am very glad I never really had to deal with more than a heavy sprinkle.

(Though one time we were very close to having to eat the cost of food and rental at Big Thunder Ranch.)

What she said.

I think there were only 5 or 6 teams that didn't show up.

If you want feedback on that, you're better off posting it at MousePad.

Many of the staff also noted that most people were in pretty good moods, likely due to the competitive edge that can sometimes turn ugly, which wasn't there due to rain.

Big thanks to katiesue and BarTopDancer for showing up to help us out, and for the teams who stuck it out and showed up despite the rain.

Cadaverous Pallor 12-14-2009 08:58 AM

See? We don't show up and the sky comes falling down.

Andrew 12-22-2009 12:05 PM

The recap article is up today, with scores, photos and quest breakdowns. Prudence and anyone else here who played, please let me know what you thought worked or didn't work. This was the first time I was in the position of operations lead (or whatever) as opposed to AVP and with the time crunch and weather there were issues, but we think it went pretty smoothly.

Mousey Girl 12-23-2009 10:49 AM

Andrew,
I have a package waiting for me at the Post Office. It wouldn't be my game materials, would it?

Should be. They were sent out early last week.

Cadaverous Pallor 12-24-2009 09:24 AM

Reading the recap makes me wish we were there...but then I saw this picture:

I still wish I were there.

Chernabog 12-24-2009 10:02 AM

Disneyland stopped being fun in the rain some time ago for me....

I mean, it's STILL nice for an hour or two, tops. But an all-day extravaganza in the rain two or three new years'es ago convinced me that it's not worth doing again. Getting bucketed on the Jungle Cruise (from the hanging buckets full of water) every time the boat turns is not fun.

The rain is the time for a nice big steaming cup of hot cocoa, a warmed-up Ps3 controller and a boyfriend massaging your stanky ass feet. :D

Oh, we thought it went pretty well overall. We certainly enjoyed not caring about our ranking this time and just turning in materials when we stopped having fun.

Did kind of wish the dismissal had been handled differently, since some people had much farther walks than others. I suppose that's an element of chance, but being in the front of the room with a close-to-gate pick-up point had a big advantage over back of the room with a depths-of-the-park pick up point.

Also, kind of wished it hadn't been so eye spy heavy. Eye spy in the rain was particularly unpleasant for us.

But, we loved the mansion quest - especially the "in August" part. And we liked the adventureland one, even if we got it wrong. And best toontown quest ever - although I maintain that one should have included Zillion to get the right answer. Critter country was kind of fun, too.

The regifting was interesting - some teams were into it, and some teams were really...well....bitchy about it. Oh well! We tried to be nice.

so, where is Godzilla munching on Tinkerbell in Disneyland?

It's in Jewel of Orleans.

Prudence 01-16-2010 03:17 PM

Oh yeah, that one killed me. There were a few eye spys in what is only my favorite shop in the whole park, the one where the staff actually know me, and I didn't recognize the photos.

My head hung in shame.

And then I tried on a few more pieces of jewelry.

To make it easy to find :)

So here is my new question- WHY is there a Godzilla munching Tinkerbell in NOS?

Really, shouldn't it be Bambi?

Ghoulish Delight 01-17-2010 06:57 PM

You know, that looks familiar. I think I've noticed it in Jewel before and thought, "Oh crap, better remember that for future eye spy reference." Don't think I would have remembered it.
