Facebook Poll Asks "Should Obama be killed"

Link

Absolutly sickening!

BarTopDancer 09-28-2009 11:33 AM

That's sick.

I Googled "Facebook Obama poll" and there are stories that the Secret Service is looking into it.

FB is usually on top of those things, I hope they pulled it already.

wendybeth 09-28-2009 11:33 AM

Maybe they meant 'Osama'- you know how often they tend to get the two confused.

Strangler Lewis 09-28-2009 11:35 AM

Given the choices, I'm thinking that this was posted as a joke/critique of those overreacting to Obama and not by someone who actually wants to kill him. Whatever the source, if it reduces the number of polls, it's all to the good.

BarTopDancer 09-28-2009 04:33 PM

Here's a story on it from ABC news

Alex 09-28-2009 04:58 PM

Just can't be all that bothered by it. Vote "No" and move on.

Am hardly shocked that some anonymous person asked a "shocking!" question.

The Secret Service will investigate because that is there job, the person behind it will be put in the lowest risk category and new douchebags will come to the fore.

lashbear 09-28-2009 05:31 PM

I expect people who answered in the affirmative should expect to be monitored too.

Jazzman 09-28-2009 06:06 PM

Yeah, it's stupid and juvenile and all that, but how is it all that different from all the "Hate Bush" crap of the last eight years?

Challenge: Only respond with answers lacking any "Obama is the Messiah" sentiment.

It's different because no one posted a "Should Bush Be Killed" poll; plus all the hate filled rhetoric coming from the far right fringe.

I feel comfortable saying that no one here sees Obama as a messiah, nor do most on the left.

Maybe I'm using a different Facebook, but "Kill Bush" posts, statuses, and whatnot have been showing up for some time as I wander around. I see this as no different than those. I agree, there is a dizzying array of rhetorical hate coming from right dwellers, and it's shameful, but again, no different at all than the constant avalanches of rhetorical hate towards Bush. Neither side is innocent, and neither target exclusive or special.

That was more rhetorical, a la society's love affair in general, than board specific. And, it was a bit of self amusing snarkiness, I admit. But, there's more Obama love-fest here than you may admit. Look back at some postings and avatars if you need proof.

I present with a bowl of sour grapes. Enjoy!

Jazzman 09-28-2009 07:20 PM

???

I don't think I, nor you, know what the hell you're talking about...

I don't think it's appropriate to post any "should __________ be killed/assassinated" poll.

This includes the batfvcking insane leaders of Iran and N. Korea.

Alex 09-28-2009 07:51 PM

My response to the following is all pretty much the same as my response above (that is, I don't care much). But since this thread does remind me of the non-partisan outrage over the Kill Bush t-shirt line:

The Kill Bush flash game:

The Kill Bush rally signs

The 10-minute-rant from an 8 year boy promising to kill George Bush.

etc. etc. etc.

I'm just really curious how you all find so much energy to constantly be outraged by things. And despite all protestations about universal disapproval of all such silliness that most seem to only be bothered to the point of shared protest by one half of it all and it conveniently mirrors your political predispositions.

Was this directed at me?

Alex 09-28-2009 08:20 PM

No, just in general (so, I guess, yes, in the sense that you're part of in general; but at times I fall into the behavior I'm loathing on too).

I don't understand the fascination with expending energy getting outraged as meaningless stuff. And then so often we do and then pretend that we're outraged at the nature of the offense and not that it is just that it is an offense against our side.

And I'm thinking that in this regard the next 7 years are going to suck around here. During Bush the bold few would do this and then it would get slapped down pretty quickly as the irrelevancy they usually were. This time that slant it's just going to feed on itself and feel like a Freeper circle jerk.

BarTopDancer 09-28-2009 08:30 PM

I don't get outraged about everything. I'm not even outraged about the poll. Most of the stuff during the Bush administration didn't outrage me either.

Actually I think the last political thing I was outraged about was Prop8. And before that was when we started bombing Iraq. At least that I remember. Those are the only two times I have ever been out with a sign or taken some sort of action, and a sign/action says I'm outraged.

You think you sound funny, or lofty. You sound like a jerk.

Thank you for deciding that there is proof for the extreme labels you have designed for us.

Seriously, you sound like a jerk.

bewitched 09-28-2009 08:36 PM

I don't know what a Freeper circle jerk is, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to be one.

That's funny. I didn't even know what a Freeper was. :D How I missed out on that bit of webology, I don't know. Thank you Alex and thank you UrbanDictionary.com!

Well, no, and no. Funny maybe in the sense that I (as I stated) was just being snarky, but comedic? Not even trying. And lofty? Sorry again. Just being as rhetorical as anyone else. But sorry if you felt I was being jerky. Wasn't trying to be.

Extreme labels? Huh? What extreme labels have I placed on you guys? I recognized the presence of much Obama love here (which there is) but I don't remember calling anyone here names or labels. I didn't even say that the Obama love here is wrong or bad. ??? Seriously, I don't know where you got this from. If it's just a reaction to your perceived "jerkiness" in my previous post, then I guess I can get that. Otherwise, I'm a bit mystified. ???

Isn't Freeper Circle Jerk (tm) a brand of BBQ Rub? :D

Really. You really want me to quote the things you said above. I have to quote what you just said, and explain to you where you belittled us. Really. </sethandamy> Ok, I'll play.

Here. You claim that this is "snarky" but not "comedic", and that it was not supposed to be "lofty" but "rhetorical". Snarky and rhetorical, which means that you were jabbing at us in a way that is supposed to not solicit a response (which is why I'm calling you out for it). If your snark was not meant to be funny, what response did you want? Oh, right, no response at all, just a way to insult us without actually facing any music.

BTW, you can't be snarky and say that you didn't say that "Obama love was wrong or bad". That's what being snarky is.

I posted plenty in the past to say how much I loved Obama. I'm not afraid to face that. What gets me is that you are saying that the Obama love-fest is proof that we can't see things objectively at all. Hell, there are some here who can't, I can agree with that. But to say that all of us who supported Obama wholeheartedly in the campaign are unable to talk about him without referring to him as the messiah?

I am not a fan of everything the man has done (and hasn't done) as President. In fact some things have made me very angry. He's definitely not my messiah. Yes, I'm still a fan; yes, I still think he's a million times better than Bush; yes, I would vote for him again. But for you to speak of us with the broad brush of "they ALL feel like this ALL the time and the way they have acted in the past is PROOF" is a faulty opinion at best and a pretty serious insult at worst.

I am sick and tired of partisan bullsh.t in this f'cked up world, and I might come off as a raggy nag for it, but I am especially sick of seeing this sh.t on my favorite place on the internet. I don't care what side it comes from or how close I am to you, I am going to call you on your sh.t when you start breaking out the paint roller.

That's all.

Jazzman 09-30-2009 10:52 PM

CP, you're reading way too much into what I posted. Just because I posted a rhetorical bit of snarkiness on this board doesn't mean it was directed at you. I see and hear Obama worship every day, from every direction, and that (as I said) is what I was referring to. That whole General You thing... Or General Somebody thing, maybe. Sorry you took it as directed at you, and intensely sorry that the way I typed it made it appear that way, but nowhere did I type with the intent of stating "Everyone at the LoT worships at Obama's feet and cannot form objective opinions, because they are so smitten with His O-ness that their minds are scrambled, So Say We All!" I assure you, if I had meant to say that, I would have said that. I have no qualms about typing exactly what I feel, trust me. And yes indeed, I can be snarky and state that the Obama love isn't bad, because I wasn't being snarky about liking Obama, I was being snarky about the tendency, of many people in America, to lash out at any Obama criticism with nearly fanatical passion. People, everywhere, do that all the time and it bugs the crap out of me. I'm so terribly sorry that I referred to it here, half jokingly, and you took it as a LoT-blanketing insult and slur against your souls. It wasn't, but if telling yourself that it was soothes your feelings and justifies your misdirected anger, then so be it. I can't change your mind, but I won't admit to crimes I didn't commit.

Sheesh...
