Ed Grier Resigns!

http://is.gd/3ZdvY

I wonder what's in store for the park now? (or rather WHO)

innerSpaceman 10-05-2009 03:53 PM

As I remarked on Twitter upon hearing the news ...

Don't let the turnstile hit you on the way out, dearie!

Snowflake 10-05-2009 03:56 PM

How about bringing back Mr. Ouimet?

Wishful thinking, I know.

wolfy999 10-05-2009 04:01 PM

I wonder when the new President will be announced?

I would imagine once they choose one.

__________

And I have to ask - what exactly did Eddy do while in charge? What will be his legacy?

Morrigoon 10-05-2009 04:09 PM

Oh man, one could only dream of Ouimet coming back, but my guess is, he'd have to return at a much higher (Rasulo) position

JWBear 10-05-2009 04:26 PM

Let me guess... He wants to spend more time with his family (I assume they can recognize him if they saw him).

Morrigoon 10-05-2009 04:27 PM

I'm guessing it's one of those situations.

CoasterMatt 10-05-2009 04:29 PM

How about Dick Cook?

Morrigoon 10-05-2009 04:31 PM

Somehow I doubt that

innerSpaceman 10-05-2009 04:31 PM

How about my cat?

He'd do a better job than Grier.

And I don't even have a cat!

DisneyDaniel 10-05-2009 04:32 PM

Andrew at MP posted copies of both:
-- E-mail message from Disneyland Resort president Ed Grier to cast members
-- E-mail message from Walt Disney Parks & Resorts president of worldwide operations Al Weiss to executives
at this LINK

Morrigoon 10-05-2009 04:41 PM

Speaking of which, Dick Cook's replacement has been announced.

Oh wait

Gemini Cricket 10-05-2009 05:05 PM

At first I was like, 'Ed Grimley resigned'? What does that mean?
lol

Prudence 10-05-2009 05:22 PM

I think they should hire me. Is there a write-in campaign?

flippyshark 10-05-2009 05:31 PM

I'll have to say, in spite of his apparent non-performance at Disneyland, Ed was a much more hands-on and visible presence when he was Vice President at the then Disney-MGM Studios here in Florida. He was known as a very approachable and warm personality, and I had several pleasant conversations with him. I was honestly surprised to hear about his invisibility and lack of cast rapport at Disneyland.

Just to be clear, those emails were forwarded to MousePlanet by Disneyland's Media Relations department--we didn't hack their mail server or anything like that...;)

So he can install Johnny Depp in Alice, too? No thanks.

Oh no, he is the one responsible for that? :(

It is my understanding, however, that he did bring a whole lot of good and much needed attention to the park, right? Mostly positive?

Kevy Baby 10-06-2009 04:00 PM

How about Rosey Grier - has he resigned yet?

RStar 10-06-2009 05:34 PM

Ed who?

Who is this Ed fellow of which you speak??

;)

Yes, though the big news when he was hired was that he started polling people heavily and was surprised to find that the older rides like Pirates got the highest approval ratings. What did he do with this info? Well, the movie Pirates makeover was done, and I believe the awful Mansion bride "upgrade" happened while he was in office as well.

I really don't know how involved he was in the process of these changes but still, I'm not going to kiss his feet and say how great he was if some serious things went wrong while he was there.

Kevy Baby 10-07-2009 09:42 AM

I had heard of that possibility before (about Pirates) and wondered if it was a directive from higher up the food chain to put Johnny in there.

JWBear 10-07-2009 10:01 AM

In my Happy Place, POTC is going to be quietly de-Depped and restored for its 50th anniversary.

Kevy Baby 10-07-2009 10:05 AM

I know I am in the minority on this, but I actually really like the first Johnny, kinda like the second one, but think the third one has to go.

Although the third Johnny is better than the constipated pirate that used to be there.

Ghoulish Delight 10-07-2009 10:28 AM

The Johnnys are tolerable, even the third one (honestly, it's not much worse than the "crapping my pants pirate" of the last iteration). To me the big travesties of the movie overlay is the cheeseball music, the ruination of the tunnel (great technical effect with the waterfall, awful creative decision with Davy Jones and nixing of the iconic haunting spiel), and Barbosa with his horribly written and even more horribly delivered, "Bring me Jack Sparrow" spiel.

I have yet to see this. I've not been in the regular (non-Halloween overlay) HM in decades. Either I've been in the park durign the overlay, or last time, it was closed for refurbishment. :( I've got to make it down in late January just for this. Post Halloween and Xmas.

Agreed. If they kept the Sparrow AAs, but returned the original soundtrack, I could live with it. As it is now, I feel like taking my iPod along and listening to the original soundtrack as I ride through.

Oddly, I completely agree with you on this.

On another note, it would be nice to have someone with the passion and dedication that Ouimet apparently displayed at the top. It's the kind of business where you really need people who 'get it' running the show. Empty suits need not apply.

Morrigoon 10-15-2009 03:41 PM

Just reading Al's update on the DLR Pres. Any man sent packing by Harriss/Pressler has my attention. Especially one that was replaced by T. Irby (making the success of his own tenure in that position especially apparent). I was initially concerned when I'd read that he'd worked at DL during the Pressler/Harriss regime out of fear that there'd be "more of same" coming back to the park. Sounds like I'll be delightfully wrong on that count. Consider me as having gone from "cautious" to "cautiously optimistic" about the new guy.

innerSpaceman 10-15-2009 09:49 PM

And by George's "partner," I suppose Al is telling us George is "family?"

Funny you should ask that... ;)
