I think also falls under the contract change rules that allow you to term your contract without paying any fees.

That looks to me to be a sign that the iPhone will finally be offered on other carriers.

I know someone who can unlock iPhones for use on other carriers. :D

They are still GSM phones, so you would have to use them on GSM networks which is pretty much AT&T or T-Mobile.

It is extremely unlikely that VZ is going to get an iPhone or a version of the iPhone before 2012, maybe longer since AT&T is now the sole provider of the data service for the iPad.

I have a primitive T-mobile phone, and if that network hooks up with iPhone, I might conceivably get one, though I have worked out so many strategies with my lovely wi-fi iPad, I'm not convinced I need to change anything. I agree with the OP, though. I'll be watching with interest.
