The Scene
In Huntington Beach. California, twenty minutes from Disneyland is a place that belongs in fantasyland. This place is vintage ****ed-up (in a good way) Orange County! Old World Village is a small German/Austrian themed outdoor shopping area with a large beer garden that we visited for the Dachshund races. For the $1 entrance fee the first 500 (of was it 50?) people get free food, for the rest of us there are many concession areas, little dogs running their legs off, also there is a German band playing all you um-pa-pa favorites a dance floor, cabaret acts . . the area is dressed to old Disney standards with something to freak you out at every turn. Normally there is no charge to enter any of the buildings:gnome: , unless there is a special event. There is a hotel on site as well as a church just in case you want to get hitched with plaster gnomes and deer looking on. If you can't come for the races, come for another event of just come have a drink in the bar, the people are very friendly. Put on your Dirndl or Lederhosen and get down there!

Sounds irresistible.

Any pics? And how often are the wiener dog races? (I'm 3000 miles away, but I'd include that in my itinerary for a visit.)

I visited the link in your post, and at the right, there is another link to the dachshund racing - and a very entertaining video about Riley, the undefeated champ. If I lived out there, I would probably have obtained a dachshund by now.

The races are Sundays at 3pm late April through October 31st
"Oktoberfest 2010 begins September 5th thru October 31st we celebrated OKTOBERFEST every Wednesday through Sunday"
There are some photos on the website and we did take a few from Brendan's Iphone but still need to download them - I will go badger him about it
- maim but not kill

OK there are some photographs http://www.flickr.com/photos/bellyda...7624478974282/ on flicker, I should warn you though my dear husband is the worlds worst photographer, he says he is finished, then takes the photo as you walk away.

OMG! It's still there?! I remember going there in the 80's. I thought it was long gone!

It's still there and looks exactaly the same. I go there for Octoberfest.

OMC is an art gallery in Old World Village curated by two really awesome people I got to know (through working at Peet's), Rolf and RoxAnn.

I highly recommend it. Go, go, go if they ever put some of their photography on display again, which I don't see on their schedule.

Oh, and they knew Steve from the Beat Hotel.

Driven by there many times and always wondered. Now it is a must see one of these days.

This sounds awesome, especially since it's outdoor, making it doable with a baby in tow.

They seem to be missing polka.
