How Long Has It Been?

My dad has always recorded little songs in his office as hobby, and to this day he still sends me a new song from time to time. I usually keep them
to myself, but to-days entry really struck me as extra special.

The song is very typical of my father's work but at a little past the half way mark when you think you sort of know the song -- he adds another element to the mix, and, it sort of took my breath away for a moment. Of course, it's my dad, so I am going to feel that way, but I hope you will enjoy the song as much as I do.

I posted it on his Myspace site last night. The song is called, How Long Has It Been.

(Pic Related -- It's my parents circa 1956)

Cool song- for some weird reason, it evokes the Beatles in my mind.....Your dad sounds like a great guy. And wow! Your parents were beautiful in their youth.:)

Sweet! I really enjoyed that! As wb picked up on, it does have that Paul McCartney does tin-pan-alley feel, (or rather looks back to the same sources that Paul was fond of referencing) - the tinny retro audio really clinched it.

(Also, I suspect the element you refer to is the cool shift into minor key for a couple of bars in the last third of the song - which was indeed a fine touch. Also, the sax solo in the middle was fun.)

I need to start getting my catalog of half-finished and almost finished songs going again. I really have no excuse apart from a punishingly busy schedule and a tendency these days to fill my leisure hours with nerdy solitaire board games.

I'd guess the element mentioned was in the lyrics.

Agreed. Which makes me wonder: were you adopted?
