Mount Everest Gets 3G Service

...and we don't even get proper reception at home !!!!

Ugh. It's Everest. Do people really need to Tweet from there? Enjoy the moment, people!

Considering that people have been making phone calls from the slopes and peak of Everest for years it doesn't seem that big of a deal (just a different transmission mechanism).

And maintaining the purity of the climbing experience seems too high a price to not get this part: "The 3G roll out will also provide residents in the area with much-needed access to advanced telecom services."

This is just plain wrong: they should have installed 4G service.

This. There is no reason residents in the area need to go without just so people can't tweet or Facebook from there.

I prefer my undeveloped nations to remain undeveloped for my imperial pleasures

That I totally support. But, I hope people will use good judgment when climbing and not put their entire climbing team in peril by tweeting. ;)
