Dana Point boat-light parade

Has anyone in CA ever gone down for the Christmas light boat parade? There is something very appealing to watching graceful sea faring vessels tarted up with trailer-esque Christmas lights. I believe there is one in Newport too (or there was when I was a kid).

Been to the Newport Boat parade several times. I like watching the drunk boaters best as they sing out of tune and slur their merry Christmases, that's what the holidays are all about.

I love these type of things. Used to go to Balboa Island a lot during the season.

But now I'm spoiled.

Christmas Lights, no matter how cheap and trailer, look pretty on boats and houses ... but especially on cactus, as it turns out.

The pic doesn't do it justice, but the Light the Night festival at the Ethel M. Chocolate Factory's Desert Botanical Garden in Las Vegas turned out to be a Fantasy Wonderland of Christmassy Goodness that no neighborhood display or boat parade can ever hope to surpass.

ISM- we saw that last year. Never thought cactus were particularly interesting until then, but yeah, really pretty with lights. :)

There's also one in San Diego. I was actually on one of the boats in that one many years back. Tons of fun.

ON the boats makes all the difference.

The lights at Ethel M are one of my favorite things to see during the holidays! I'm so glad you got to experience that :)

Here's a link to the Ethel M site about the lights!

I haven't done Dana Point, but I suspect that Newport's is bigger.

I thought about editing the above sentence, but then decided to leave it as is.

Laurie and I are SO going to the lighting ceremony next year.

OMG, when we drove up and first set eyes on the magical fantasy world, I nearly squeed in my pants.
