Mary Blair House For Sale

Quote:

The Lee and Mary Blair Residence, 1939 - The real hidden treasure of Cahuenga Pass is not the fabled gold and silver buried in the 19th century, but rather this site of shelter for deer and the creative human spirit. Building with rigorous adherence to the principals of organic architecture, the artists and architect created a now timeless residence at one with its hillside garden site. The natural intimacy of the architecture is enhanced with the purposeful use of redwood and glass. From the grass topped concrete 2 car garage a nature trail snakes up to the entry of the three-story view residence which steps gracefully up the slope, incorporating an entry, open plan living/dining area, bedroom, bath, and studio or 2nd bedroom and half-bath at the top.
$725,000

Actually, the listing says "No Cooling", so that's my bid cancelled. Pity, I would have liked to buy it.

I was expecting all the middle areas to be filled with waterways.

The architect seems to have had an odd fascination with boxes.

But it's so dated that it is actually retro-cool!

It's a great location, very close to the Spider Pool!

And only $750,000?

That's not bad. At that price a buyer could afford to knock the house down and put up a cozy McMansion.

It's actually right in the neighborhood we fell in love with recently. (We weren't house-hunting, we were estate sale shopping.) Who knew there were huge, tucked-away yards in this town? We hope to buy a place there, someday.

Lash: if you can afford $725,000 for a house, why let $5k-8k worth of a/c installation get in the way?

(I'm just kidding, of course, I can list all sorts of reasons, but just try finding a cooled house on the market that's been owned by Mary Blair!)
