Storage Wars
I guess I'm a sucker for these types of shows. Like Pawn Stars, I'm now hooked on Storage Wars on A&E. Is anyone else following this show? I'd be curious to see how many people are now showing up at the auctions because of the show. If I was closer I'd probably go to at least one.

I've been to one way back when with a friends dad who did that as his version of hitting the beach with a metal detector.
Mold was the most common discovery. Porn the second. I don't think he ever really found anything of value. Haven't watched any of the A&E reality shows so can't say if they show something that matches that experience. But while reality TV is the topic, why the **** does Netflix keep thinking I'd want to watch American Chopper. I'd really like to know what I did that gave it that persistent impression. |
Fail to hit the "not interested" button?"

There is no "Not Interested" button on the Roku.
But mostly I'm just curious, there's alway 13 recommendations for me. 12 of them are pretty good suggestions. Then American Choppers. I've never watched any of the motorcycle or car modification reality shows. The American Choppers crew seem particularly annoying when I see them in other venues. So I wonder. |

Isn't that on right after "I Work at the DMV" and before "Janitor's Life"?

I find Storage Wars strangely fascinating too. Of course they generally only show the huge failures and the huge successes. It's pretty surprising what can sometimes come out of what at first glance is just a giant pile of crap.
I can't believe the guys on it seem to make a living from that. |
Not knowing what level of "a living" is depicted, but my friends dad made (or claimed to anyway) a profit overall but it wasn't large so if one could get the volume up I can imagine it. But a lot of units just essentially went straight to the dump or goodwill. But mostly he just did it because it gave him something to do, kind of like my grandparents who consider themselves mighty fine garage sale pickers (though I've never seen them sell any of the stuff they tell people were great finds).
But I guess if you have an eye so can tell from 20 feet away that the leg just peaking out from behind unlabeled U-Haul boxes in the back suggests a $5000 table then you'd have to do less volume. |

I have seen the show and find it interesting. The problem I see is you could just end up with a crap load of junk. I knew people that used to go buy storage units around here but more often than not you just had boxes of peoples memories and household goods.
When my ex was a tow truck driver we had to haul a car out of a storge unit. The rest of the unit was filled with pot and the car too! They emptied it before they let us take it. |
