Robot wars

Just heard about these guys on NPR.

I think this image says it all...

Yes, that's a pitching machine...for 2x4's. There's everything from robots that can create lethal blasts of air, to ones that blast bits of molten metal.

I haven't quite figured out the deal with this guy...looks like it crawls around and surrpetitiously melts asphalt or something.

They put on exhibitions occasionally. Needless to say, fire officials aren't their best friend, and their exhibitions have been rarer and rarer. They just did one in LA on the second, wish I'd heard about it sooner.

I feel old. I saw these guys 20 years ago next month at a club in NYC called "Area". It was amazing. I urge anyone to check out their vids (only the very brave should attend the shows).

Thanks for the memories, GD.

No spectators have ever been injured at their shows. Participants on the other hand...

And now to make some people feel old:

We studied SRL when I was an undergrad. In a gender/technology/lit course.

Holy crap. There's so much cool stuff in this world that I've never heard of.

I love robotics and didn't know about these guys. My goodness! I'm blushing this has me so excited and happy!

BLUSHING!

Also, my father starred in a terrible movie called Robot Wars.

Not that that has anything to do with anything, but I think it's funny.
