Dapper Day at Disneyland - Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011

Some Disney fans (and someone named Justin Jorgensen) is organizing Dapper Day at Disneyland on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011. This idea seems well "suited" for all you stylish and snappy dressers at Lounge of Tomorrow!

I'm thinking of going to this and joining other sharp-dressed Disney fans that day. Hopefully, it won't rain too much on Sunday.

Preliminary Details: 3 p.m. Meetup at the Mark Twain Riverboat to cruise the Rivers of America with the whole dapper lot.

Event Background:
Spend a day at the park in high style.

The original Disneyland designers frequently populated their renderings with guests who appeared dressed for a day of sophisticated entertainment -- because this was Disneyland after all! A new, highly developed, exhaustively detailed entertainment experience. No flip-flops or cargo shorts here! These were men in sharp suits, toddlers working two-pieces, and ladies looking like pages from Dior's sketchbook -- all as if a visit to Disneyland were on par with a night at the opera.

And why shouldn't it be? That's what this day is about, realizing those designer's dreams that Disneyland be seen as the upscale escape that it is, filled with guests dressed appropriately for it.

Interpret this however you like (but no prom dresses please -- barf). A period "Mad Men" look is as correct as the latest haute couture, be creative, go Gaga, anything that would make the legendary and stylish Disney designers Mary Blair, John Hench, Herbie Ryman, Dorthea Redmond, Harriet Burns and the rest of the stylish WED lot look proud -- or blush!

Bring cameras. Stage impromptu photoshoots. See you at the park. Werk.

Park Hours on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011:
Disneyland 8 a.m. to midnight
Disney California Adventure 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Annual Pass Blockouts:
Note: Since it will be Presidents Day Weekend on Sunday, Feb. 20, the Annual Pass levels of SoCal and Deluxe are blocked out. Blockout Day tickets are $50.

Aw, now ya made me wish I had a pass. And a pair of gloves. And this dress.

Awesome idea - too bad so many people are blocked. Perhaps we should organize our own someday.

I like it. I get so sick of seeing people in poorly fitting, stained, torn clothes when I am in the park.

I just saw a pic of Worthy (not of this board, but many here know him) all gussied up for Dapper Day. He looks faaaaaaaaabulouuuuuuuuus!

LSPoorEeyorick 02-20-2011 12:20 PM

Agreed that we should do our own Dapper Day!

How about our own diaper day?

Well, one thing assured, I will never assist your wife in making that costume for you, nor do I ever want to see it. ;)
