Walt Disney the Futurist

Disney's Mars and Beyond Remix

Thought I would post this here instead of YouTubery

It was found at this How Stuff Works article

And this Disney's Man and the Moon remix

That was great, and timely as I had just finished reading This story on the new John Carter movie from Disney which takes place on Mars.

The trailer for John Carter (the fact that they apparently decided that "of Mars" needed to be removed from the title doesn't bode well) is awful, awful, awful. If at the end the title card for the Conan the Barbarian remake had been shown I wouldn't have known any different.

If Andrew Stanton were not attached I'd have essentially zero interest in it.

(Not to mention that they appear to be riding horses on Mars -- unless they've added some heroic battle on Earth to the story -- and that's just wrong.)

Wow... I felt completely the opposite about the trailer for John Carter. That just about guarantees it's gonna be a really good movie.

The problem I have with the title is that the name John Carter is too plain. I think of the TV show Eurika or the Terminater movies.....

1:07 into the trailer.

Definitely horses. But in watching again almost definitely a scene on Earth so not an issue.

It would help if I had some fanboy fondness for John Carter. But while I find the novels interesting (I have read them) as an early example of pulp fantasy I don't think they're very good. But I feel the same way about Tarzan and my disinterest hasn't hurt that much.
