Stupid Tablet Questions
After much musing and mulling, and as much as I love the iPad, I'm getting a Toshiba Thrive for Xmas this year.
I'm new to android apps and stuff. Any advice on any cool, useful apps I should install? I'm assuming I should install the AVG app for the tablet, as well? |
Facebook
Twitter (I prefer Seesmic) Netflix Kindle Nook Google Music MyFitnessPal Amazon App store (1 free paid app a day) Google + |
UberSocial for Twitter, ymmv

I use Lookout as my security, not AVG. Works seamlessly. And Lookout has a "locate lost phone" feature. Which I've actually used.
I personally use a 3rd party browser (Dolphin HD) because it allows tabbed browsing and can mimic a desktop browser for sites that give dumbed down versions that are missing features to mobile browsers. Adobe flash player if you want to take advantage of flash website content. Molome is my favorite novelty photo app Feed Pics Live Walpaper - lets you use an RSS feed to autmatically update your wallpaper. Lots of sites out there with fun wallpapers to choose from |
Thank you BtD, CM and GD. All wonderful suggestions!
I'm really excited to have a new toy on the way. Not that I need another distraction, I'll bet I will read more now that I will have a kindle app. |
I use Lookout too and love the free app of the day at a Amazon app store. I have found many fun distractions with the free apps. I love the puzzle type ones.

I wanted to update, if you care, I absolutely love the tablet. Having lived with (and lusting after) my roomie's iPad for the last year, I lust no longer. This droid tablet is simply fabulous and does everything I want and probably a million other things I have not even discovered (or downloaded from Android Market). Yeah, it is WiFi only, but my office has Wifi and there are plenty of hotspots if I really need to access the web outside of the home.
I've downloaded plenty of reading material on the Kindle app, watched movies via Netflix streaming. Hooked it up to the TV for fun via the HDMI (worked like a charm) and have only one minor quibble about the speaker quality. They're not nearly as nice as the iPad externals, they sound kind of thin adn tinny. I've fiddled with settings and bought this for the times I actually need to have the speaker. Watching movies in bed with headphones is great, sound is fabulous. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone needing or wanting a tablet. It's a swell toy! |
Glad you're having fun with it!

I'm glad you are enjoying your tablet, they are a lot of fun aren't they!
I bought a keyboard for mine but don't really need it. I love the free app of the day from Amazon. |
I picked up a Nexus 7 today to act as my travel companion on my upcoming trip.
Started setting it up and here is the first thing that came up on it..... Awwww.... ![]() And, yes Kevy we all see it. |
