blu-ray weirdness

A puzzlement.

The gear: Sharp AQUOS Quattron TV; Sharp AQUOS BD-HP24U Blu-ray disc player, Midnight in Paris blu-ray

I wanted to watch this movie last night. Loaded it up, previews and special features played fine. The movie, the music track played, but the regular audio track, no dialogue could be heard.

I stuck in 4 different blu-ray discs to see if it was a wonky setting (not that I changed anything from the last disc I played) and they each played fine. Nothing wrong with them. Put in Midnight in Paris and still, no audio track.

The blu-ray has really limited tools for audio selections and I fiddled, but still got nothing.

Anyone encountered anything like this? Could this be a disc flaw?

Humm, doubt it's a disk error. Did you try running a firmware update on the Blu-ray player? Often times that fixes errors like this. Of course other times it causes errors like this so there is that.....

Also a quick Google Search shows you are not alone with this issue. On your blu-ray player try changing the audio from PCM to bitstream.

My guess would be that since your player is going straight to your TV, you're getting left and right channels but no center channel. I'd check the settings on your blu-ray player as opposed to the disc.

Thank you Moonie and Mousepod, I'll try both suggestions tonight.

Very weird

Moonie's Google search results make sense. VMGSM! (visible moonliner google search mojo). You'll be enjoying the dialogue in no time!

This made me look into the firmware update I was contemplating (because of a occasional playback problems I have encountered). Now, I am not so sure I want to do it.

Ditto that. My Oppo's having problems. But I don't want to make it worse.

Feh. It is a disc snafu. In researching further, plenty of complaints about it. Of course I bought it too long ago to return to amazon. I guess I will get a standard DVD instead. Also, got to say I'm unhappy with my blu-ray player, it's really sluggish and finicky about netflix streaming. Any recommendations for a better player? Hell, my cheap insignia was a better machine.

I would at least try amazon. They have replaced two way out of warranty kindles for me n o problem.

Yeah, I think a known disc problem would get a refund from Amazon no matter how old.
