How you read digitally.

I'm curious (Also posted on Facebook & twitter).

With the iPad, Ken Doll and the such a lot of magazines and comics are being produced and released digitally for those types of products. I'm curious how you read them? Do you read it like a paper magazine/book or do you zoom? Are you more comfortable reading the device horizontally or vertically?

Reason I'm asking is that I'm attempting to draw a story for use digitally and input would be helpful!

Well I don't read comics but I do read magazines on my kindle fire. I view them vertically and I do zoom when needed.

Vertical, though I would switch to horizontal if that's what the book called for.

Anything requiring horizontal scroll is immediately abandoned. If the full width can't be read legibly without scrolling or zooming I will abandon it pretty quickly so never really read magazines (and have never read comic books or graphic novels in any format).

I would never read in landscape.

I view horizontally.

I read Wired mag on my iPad and I love it. Each story is on it's own screen (which you flick left or right to navigate between), and you flick down to continue reading the current story. The view snaps to each new page of the story when you flick up or down and the pages are all super formatted for elegant viewing with nice typography and stuff so you don't need to zoom. The stories usually include interactive photos, videos, or infographics, and even the ads are impressive and fun enough to make you want to play with them.

So, Wired is formatted specifically for electronic viewing? If you were to put it next to the printed version, it's formated completely different, right?

I have Real Simple on my kindle and yes it works just as Keith described. The pages are in the same order as the print version but it looks different.

^^ This seems to be the norm for me.
