What was your first concert?
This thread is stemming from the "I Heart Duran Duran" thread.
Let discuss your first concert ever! Who did you go see and how old were you...approximately? Or you can leave that out if you don't want to date yourself :D Mine was...brace yourself...Culture Club! I was in 7th grade! They had just released Karma Khameleon(sp?) album! It was soooo cool! |
Tony Orlando and Dawn.
(Taken to the concert by my aunt. I don't remember anything about it.) Next was: The Summer Jam Concert featuring Foreigner 4, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, the Charlie Daniels Band and the Surf Punks at Aloha Stadium. :) |
Whitesnake/Great White - 8th grade!
My best friend and I went..my Mom dropped us off. We even bought leopard print spandex body suits, which we wore with little black skirts and ripped t-shirts..we thought we were "hot"... Halfway thru Whitesnakes set..she convinces me to throw my bra...Ok! No big! I'm "hot"...so I throw it...it doesn't even make it to the stage. Great! Some "stranger" is now getting off on my bra...except...it wasn't my bra...it was my MOM's! (she wasn't much in the chest area and I was an early bloomer!) Fast forward to end of evening..we're getting picked up by Mom...my friends blurts out.."Dena threw her bra!"....my Mom knew I was wearing her bra! She's livid...not that I threw a bra...that I threw HER bra. I get grounded from concerts for a freakin year!!!! on a side note...she just bought me tickets to see Motley Crue for my bday...and of course asked me if I was going to throw my bra or not...should she get me a spare? Thanks Mom! |
Oh dear. This is a decidedly UN-swanky confession. But, I did go against my will.
Some DORK decided he wanted to take me out so, instead of asking me (I was 15 and too young to date) he asked my MOTHER! She was sooo impressed with the boy with such nice manners that she said yes. ARGH! So, my first concert and first date was to see PETER FRAMPTON in ROW Z seats at the GIANT Anaheim Stadium (now the Big Ed) in 1977. At lease Peter was in the height of his popularity, was wearing pink satin pants, and I could hear clearly what he said thru the synthysizer during "Show Me the Way". I think that set the stage quite well for my punk rock career. ;) |
Barry Manilow 2 a.m. Paradise Cafe.............
First date, first concert... I doubled with my mother. Now that I have dated and embarrased myself... I'll hide again. |

My first several concerts were Kenny Rogers, Jan & Dean and my mom recently told me I saw The Beach Boys (or some of them) when I was six. I remember seeing Jan & Dean, because my dad told me about the accident and Dead Man's Curve. I know I was six when we saw them.....summer before I turned seven. My first concert that I chose was Loverboy when I was 12. My friend's older sister and her friend took us, and my friend's parents thought my parents were okay with it....but my parents still don't know I went. Loverboy came to Portland last year and I was tempted to go see them again.....but I didn't. |

That has got to be the funniest story. Ever. I'm dying laughing and my husband is now reading about your bra. Er, I mean your mom's bra. So'd she get you that spare? :p My first concert was Thompson Twins/OMD at Oakland Colliseum. I think I recall telling this story before on the pad. I was 15. My parents still thought I was too young but the tickets had been bought before they knew about it and they got pushed into it. Had to look cool for my friends, y'know? Anyways both bands were good but OMD should have been the headliner. They put on a great show. Edit....I wasn't even thinking. Maybe I just don't count it as a concert because it wasn't my doing. My first concert was actually Ricky Nelson when I was maybe 9 or 10 at the state fair. I got to see my mom go completely gooey. Maybe that's why I don't remember it clearly. |
My first concert~
My dad bought tickets for my sister & her husband to take my brother, his friend, my sister and I to see Santana. I remember the tickets were $6. I was in 3rd grade. I was so jazzed to be included in this 'event'. I wore my 'heels' {you know, slip-ons with an inch heel} and a skirt. The top I can't remember. But I did wear one. We had seats up in the balcony but my sis and I ventured down to the floor. I remember people tripping out on us two young girlies {I guess I was maybe 8? and she was 11} and waving to us as we walked by. Sort of chuckling. We were able to walk up to the stage. I remember the gigantic speakers and watching Carlos Santana playing that guitar {I was familiar with their music}. I also remember the sweet sweet smell of something smokey floating around.... Ah, I kept my bra. I liked my Betty Boop training bra, so cool. And NA, who did you date, Eddie Haskel? ;) |
Make no mistake.... I CHOSE to see Manilow... I wanted to sing on stage with him at my ripe age of 14.... would I do that again... hmmm.. maybe not.
See him person? Heck yes.. but he wouldnt be my top choice. I didnt see Neil Diamond in concert till.... '97, and man, what a show he puts on for an 'old man'. But that aside... my only other claim to fame is seeing Tori Amos seven times. I've seen other live concerts... but yeah... I started, by choice, with Manilow. |
