Revenge of the Popup?

Is it just me?

I've been using the IE popup blocker with great success for the last few months but all of a sudden it seems to be losing steam.

For example popups from sites like www.drudgereport.com that had always been blocked are now getting through. Is anyone else seeing this?

I use Google Toolbar and it seems as effective as always.

It's possible that you've picked up a bit of adware at some point.

It's a new tactic by websites that use pop-ups. They bombard the blocker with Pop-Ups, and then it can't keep up, so 1 useally gets displayed. Cheap Tactic. I've found that even teh GT pop-up blocker can get like that. :(

Humm, an interesting thought. I turned off the IE blocker and visted drudgereport.com. I did not get flooded with pop-ups. So it looks like something more sinister is at work here.

I've noticed the same thing on several non-connected PC's running just IE for pop-ups. Is anyone else running just IE for blocking? If so can you visit drudgereport.com and let me know if IE blocks the pop-ups or not?

Thanks.

While I usually surf on my Mac at home, I needed a break here at work (on a PeeCee).

I have Firefox's built in blocker on and two pop-unders got through going to Drudge.

On Safari on my Mac, I NEVER get pop-ups. Ever.

Useally, it will flood until X pop-ups, or until it gets a cookie saying that the page was displayed. Once you finally get a window, the cookie is tracked, and the pop-ups stop. That's why with it off, you only get the 1 pop-up.
