Happy to be Alive

This morning I had coffee with a Woman, who's friends husband died last night in his sleep. He was 42, had no known health problems went to bed at night, and didn't wake up the next morning.

Being 43, I'm feeling grateful at the moment, that I woke up today - even if I did have to go to work.

Carpe Diem

Last time I checked.

Alive. Even kicking. And grumbling. And bored. But happy to be bored and grumbling. I don't even mind being a little bit bloated today. Or a lot broken out. Or cranky. Or tired. In fact I LOVE being bloated, cranky and tired on a day like today.

An alive kind of day.

Thanks, Euromonkey.

WOW!

We've had enough crap to deal with lately. Can we both stay alive for right now?

I feel so fortunate about being alive.

I've got laundry to do, a kitchen to clean, work that needs to be finsihed, a lawn to mow, weeds growing out of the sidewalk.... Damn if I don't feel pretty lucky right about now.

My biggest worry right now is a dent in my car. Life is good.

Being alive, and with human-level consciousness - is one of the highlights of the universe. Enjoy it, as I usually do with the happiest groove.

Zillions of years for interstellar matter to coalesce into stars, then billions more for the planets they bathe in light and warmth ... heheh, those that are just the right distance, with just the right mass, and just the right orbit for it ... to give birth to life. None of it possible till the millionth generation of billions-year-old stars to give to the universe their manufactured atoms for rock and water and life. Then billions more years of evolution and lifewipeout and more evolution and more wipeout till finally there are creatures with the consciousness to not only appreciate life vs. notlife, but to begin to comprehend that they came from the stars and that there's a universe out there of which they are a very rare and special part.

Anthropocentric as it may be, it thrills my soul to contemplate that we may be the very purpose of the stars, the very pinaccle of the cosmos, the veritable hand of god.

And of all the kajillions of creatures with whom we share this planet, though each one of them possesses an indomitable instinct to survive, very few of them - along with us - have the consciousness to appreciate being alive.

And always remember - there's nothing to have to DO, there's nothing you have to HAVE. Just BE and, if you so desire, be happy.

Ahem, we live like KINGS! (Well, I do at least)

Every once in a while (perhaps not often enough), I look around and see food always on my table, indoor plumbing where I live, refreakingfrigeration and ohmyhellagod electricity! I have a car, I have a job, I have loved ones up the wazoo. There's never more than enough money to simply pay the bills, but so freaking what? Life is so bloody excellent for me, and - compared to the vastness of human history now thankfully behind me - I live like a bloody KING!

'Life is good' is an understatement. I'm pretty damned healthy, I'm pretty much free, I'm in love, I have plenty of friends and get plenty of sex and have practically all the creature comforts it's not obscene to have.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

(sorry for the double post)
