We are drfinately going to this. We're meeting some friends there as well, but anyone is welcome.
We may end up in Little Tokyo beforehand and pick up some Bento Boxes for dinner - or, at least that's what I'm thinking at the moment. Me and Disney: Subject to change without notice. ;) |
Grrr, we're destined not to screen a movie with the dead. Jen's younger brothers are driving down, their first venture out of LA sans parents (the one just got his driver's license), so we'll be entertaining them for the weekend.

We'll be seeing the B.B. King Blues Festival at Gibson (formerly Universal) Amphitheater, but we're sure you'll have a groovy time :)

For the uninitiated - this is a fabulous movie. Almost like a French arthouse version of an American gangster movie - but made in America. If you're on the fence, read this great DVD review http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s1649poin.html
After you've fallen for this classic flick - you should rent Mel Gibson's unsubtle remake "Payback" - just so you can laugh at how far we have fallen.. |
I wish we could make it but alas, Saturdays suck for us at the moment.
Still, I think I should add this to the Netflix list. Sounds very cool. |

Point Blank was a hoot. Lee Marvin's first-nameless character shooting his way up the "organization" food chain in deadpan dialogue made this film a delight to watch. Not to mention the art direction of some of the swanky gangster digs. The films plays out a whole lot different to a contemporary audience, but there's so much to enjoy about what this film captures.
As for the venue, this time around we parked on the street and got in before they opened the driveway, so we got a prime location. We also were a group of about 10 so it was a fun party/festival atmosphere with never-ending picnic cuisine. Having a DJ at the event is also great, playing snippets from Taxi Driver and bollywood disco remakes |
