It started when this guy's (can't find his real name, seems to go by FedExGuy on his site) friends moved to Seattle and didn't have any furniture. So they built themselves a simple desk out of FedEx boxes. When FedExGuy found himself in the same situation, he went a few steps further and furnished his entire apartment with pieces made entirely from FedEx packing materials. It's quite impressive.

He's in a bit of legal trouble, though. FedEx is going after him for trademark infringement. At first I did a big ol' :rolleyes:. I mean, FedEx couldn't BUY better advertising. "Our packing materials are so strong, they can be used as furniture!" He's not selling the furniture, and doesn't seem to be selling ad space (there are a couple links, but those seem to be to sites that provided technical support for the site, not really sponsor ads) But, at least acording to the letters he's got posted, he was aparantly using the FedEx logo on t-shirts and business cards. Probably not a smart move.

Yeah, not a smart move to use their logo on shirts and stuff. Still, it's a pretty creative idea. Don't think I would want to sleep on the bed though. :)

I couldn't find any evidence of shirt sale, other than the allegations in the letter. If he WAS selling shirts with the FedEx logo, he would probably be in trouble. Of course, this is based on my vast expert knowledge gained from reading chapter 1 of my IP casebook and only covers trademark thus far; it will be a few weeks until I get to copyright. I'm guessing, though, that the Center has the stronger argument with respect to copyright.

Seriously, I'm not sure I'd want to have sex on the FedEx bed. Or sofa. (why, I don't know. I do know my home office desk was um, less "padded". :evil: )
Unless, of course, those FedEx boxes aren't empty and still contain various mail order items. With every thrust, a present! Now, that's the gift that keeps on giving. :)

FedEx Furniture may not be swanky, but it sure is functional and economical! Jose, the FedEx Furniture guy, could be an inspiration to poor college students everywhere!
