Fox gets last laugh

So apparantly there's been a big, stupid flap over the release of the 6th season box set of the Simpsons. This was initially released in a box shaped like Homer's head. It seems many collectors were outraged by this, the novelty box positively ruining their ability to neatly and attractively store their collection. Well, far be it from Fox to ignore their fans. They have relented. All one must do to receive a standard box for the season, matching the other 5 releases is send in your proof of purchase.

Of course, they couldn't do it without taking their small digs at the complainers. :D :snap:

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head.

I sent off my payment for one yesterday.

Not that I collect the series.......

A dislike for storing your digital media inside a hollowed out human head

Now, who could even think that!?

As soon as I opened my Season 6 Simpsons (I love the new packaging, BTW!) I saw the little insert inside to receive the usual box packaging. My Grandma & I both laughed over it!

My brother, on the other hand, is self admittedly way anal over his DVD packaging. Apparently, He likes the aesthetics of a neatly organized DVD library.

I like my hollowed out Homer head. 'Nuff said. Plus, it saves me my rear molars. :D :p ;) :snap:

The blurb about getting the replacement box was very clever and funny, but the truth is - despite the cool Homer Head design - the package was the cheapest, crappiest piece of flimsy plastic and would be falling apart within a week of purchase.

Just what are you doing with your Homer-head packaging?

Motorboat Cruiser 08-26-2005 06:52 PM

Well, as the seasons progress, they are going to have to try various marketing gimmicks to keep the sales up. I stopped watching around season 8, sensing that they were "jumping the shark" big time. I can't imagine how they are going to sell too many Season 10 sets.

I think the Homer head idea was clever, but what do I know?

Obviously, Fox realizes this is a serious enough problem to warrant offering free replacement packaging, yes? So, why the snark?

Fox had the chance to appear responsive to its customers, but blew it - calling anybody that gave negative feedback an anal retentive titty baby.

It turned me off. But I could just be cranky. Flying does that to me.

Just curious, did anyone call the 800 number on the insert? It's a very funny message.

MouseWife 08-26-2005 07:46 PM

I personally didn't listen to it but my son did. He was not entirely amused.

He is someone who takes great care of his cd's and was really annoyed when he opened it. He said what you said, iSm, it was going to fall apart. I think it already had. He is a big Simpson fan so he loves the head but it would have been a helluva lot nicer if they'd put the normal box inside it and made this some sort of donut holder instead.

Would have saved me $2.95 and a lousy check.
