Question, it's a simple one, I think...

USB2 ---- it's it downward compatible?

For example, can you use USB2 with the regular old USB? I understand A & B... But I don't understand the whole thing.

I never thought that hard about it, and my dear S.O. isn't around to answer my question, which is actually on behalf of an off-board friend that I can't visually see what he's talking about...

Yes, you just wont get the same speeds as USB2.

if you have USB2 inputs on your computer, and a USB2 device, make sure you have a USB2 cable also. (if you dont, it wills till transfer at USB 1 rates)

There my be a few exceptions where it's not backwards compatible, but I havent run into any yet.

Are you sure bout the USB 2 cable thing? I'm pretty sure thats just a marketing trick. Its the same cables, all the change was made on the cards.

Well, basically the situation sets up a little more like this:

The computer in question has the old USB card installed in the back. For christmas, they got something that uses USB2. Can they plug it in? Will it work?

I am thinking it will work, but want to have more verification.

It should work fine, just not at USB 2 Speed..

You may be right, but I thought windows told me it was the wrong speed, and the only thing that wasnt USB2 was the cable..(but i may be wrong)
