Am I a thief?

Am I a thief, immoral or just a savvy consumer?

I went into Subway for lunch today. I ordered a 6" Subway melt with double meat (very yummy). When I made it to the cashier she only charged me for a single meat sandwich. Had she asked me what I ordered I would have said "double meat". She never asked so I just paid the requested amount.

I did notice the error and could have spoken up but chose not to. If she had overcharged me I certainly would have not let it slide.

So am I thief? I ordered a product and paid the amount requested by the store.

Am I immoral? I did not go in with the intention to defraud.

Or just a savvy consumer?

Is your conscious bothering you? You know the answer here.

That's what they get for running out of onions when I was there last. They are right next door to Stator Bros. but were out of onions for at least 2 days. So - they gave you extra meat for free to make up for my trouble. Sounds even to me. ;)

Thief, thief!

The honest thing would have been to admit you got double meat.

I can't comment on your morality. The big guy in the sky with the beard and the eyes bearing down on you right now with the lightning bolts in his fists will ultimately be your judge. But he's busy right now, he's trying to quiet down Baby Jesus who is crying right now because of your sin.
Stealing meat is stealing meat.

Whoa, I was just channelling my Catholic Portuguese grandmother. She told me the above once when I accidentally stole a bag of poi when I was 3. :D

What do I care about your sandwich?

:D

not a thief.

Pirate maybe, but not a thief. :P

and subway? for all the times they hosed me on a regular sammich, I have little sympathy for their taking a loss on a bit extra.

I say, eat hardy and chalk it up to their crews mistake, not yours.

The Subway double meat = regular sub anywhere else. They totally skimp on the meat there.

I got a grande maple macchiato today when I had only ordered a tall.

Hmmm...I dunno. Not a thief, but not completely honest either.

I encountered a similar situation recently. I took my change to a coinstar kiosk, dumped all my change, got my receipt, and then checked the bin where the coins that don't make it through go. I reached my hand in and felt a giant pile of change. It wasn't mine. Probably the last person that cashed in change cashed a whole bunch in and didn't think to check the bin. I briefly considered notifying a store manager, but decided it wasn't their money either. So I dumped it in the machine and got another receipt. Stealing? I don't think so. More like finding. But I suppose the most honest thing to do would have been to turn it in.

Dude, it's a good thing it wasn't Burger King.

Can you imagine the King knocking on your door, asking for his meat back?

When Ralphie and I went to see 'Good Night and Good Luck' the other night, we walked into the little theatre and there was no one in the box office. There was really no one anywhere. We could have just walked right in to see the movie, but we waited until someone showed up. About 5 minutes later, the concession stand guy showed up. Apparently he was the projectionist and the box office person, too. We bought our ticket and sat down. While we sat, a manager came out of nowhere and checked people's ticket stubs. *Whew* Glad we paid.
I really wanted my money to go to this film and I was glad we waited.

I am one of those people who checks their change and if given too much I always return it. I don't know how many times I have done this at drive-thru windows only to be met with a blank stare. I also seldom get a thank you for it either.
