Just got an email for this exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art:

John Waters: Change of Life
On view through January 15th, 2006

John Waters has been taking photographs for years. But not the kind you and I take. He photographs television screens, taking stills of everything that interests him and using them as the raw material for works that Waters calls his "little movies."

From the OCMA web site...."In these novel photographic sequences, Waters skewers cultural symbols and stereotypes, and elaborates on the cultural and subcultural themes that have been central to all his work: race, sex, sanctimony, glamour, class, family, politics, celebrity, religion, the media, and the allure of crime."

He does take "regular" photographs, as well, but Waters' prospective is uniquely his. In addition to photos and collages, you'll see sculptures and early Waters movies.

The exhibition is a hoot. If you view it, don't miss Waters' narrated iPod tour. He makes his work accessible in ways you'd never imagined.

oh yes, and there's even a film serries: http://www.ocma.net/index.html?page=...E_CRUSH:__FILM

though it appears the cult-classic Pink Flamingos is not on the bill.

You guys get the coolest stuff! I love John Waters- I especially just love listening to him talk. He's hilarious, and he has the quickest wit around.

This one came from the KCRW mailing list (at least, I assume that's where € got it, that's where I saw it). I don't know if it's for contributing members only, but it's a great mailing to get.

I like John Waters the man, but with a couple exceptions (Serial Mom being the biggest) I don't care for his movies.

It sounds like an interesting show. :)

I liked 'Hairspray', 'Serial Mom' and 'Cecil B DeMented'. I don't know if I like 'Pink Flamingos' or not but it sure is memorable.

I wanted to bump this up becasue after playing Calendar with Lisa it looks like December 4th or December 18th (Both Sundays) are the only time we'll have a chance to see this show. So if anyone else wants to see this and maybe turn it into an OC swanking, let me know your preference and we'll work out some details.

Cheers
