SIXTH SENSE encounter
So, on occasion, I work at The Great Movie Ride at the Disney MGM Studios here in Florida. The next paragraph will give you a quick bit of necessary background information.
A couple of years ago, our Movie Ride spiel was re-written. In one scene, as the ride vehicle leaves the Indiana Jones pharaoh's tomb, visitors pass by a series of skeletal mummies. The new script has us say, "Oh! I see dead people," as we pass by. This allusion to THE SIXTH SENSE sometimes gets a chuckle. Anyway, it is not an optional line. We are expected to say it every time. So, today, I had a celebrity guest seated right smack dab in the front row. Yes, it was Haley Joel Osment, the very lad who made that catch phrase famous. So, as soon as I hear that he will be on my show, I think to myself, I'm going to have to say that line, which he must be REAALLLY sick of, and he will probably think I'm throwing it in just because he's here today. He arrived with what I took to be his mother and sister, and a Disney Guest Relations host. They sat up front, right next to me, and the show began. When the moment arrived, I said the line, as required, over the microphone. As I did so, I noticed that the sister kind of rolled her eyes. I leaned over to HJO and family, and told them, off mic, "It's in the script. I have to say it." They laughed appreciatively. For the record, HJO was very good-natured and sweet. He smiled and laughed through the whole ride, and thanked me after the show. Of course, he isn't a little kid anymore. I'm going to guess he is around fifteen or sixteen. He was slight of build, and had rather pretty long hair. His voice has certainly changed. He is in town to read the Christmas story at the Candlelight Celebration at EPCOT. So, that was my highlight for the day. |
I love your stories, Flippy! :)

Of course, it wasn't until later that day that I realized

Well handled, If it were me, I probably would have pre-warned him right when he got on. |
I'm glad you resisted the urge to ask him (on mic or off), "hey, so what ever happened to your acting career?"
(oh, and the reason I edited your post was to change "could of years" to "couple of years." It was too good a tale for a typo.) |
