'Tis the Season.....

....for cars to break down. (Sigh).

I got up early, got ready for work, left the house and was actually running reasonably on-time, despite the horrible driving conditions. (Compact snow and ice). I get half-way to work, and then my car just sort of stalls and dies. In an intersection, of course. I managed to get the damn thing into a bank parking lot, and then I called AAA, hoping they got my payment.....They had, and they sent out a call for a tow truck, but said it would be a while due to all the wrecks, etc. I was freezing my ass off, and had to go to the bathroom, so after waiting an hour I gave up, stuck a sign on my dash, and ran over to the McDonalds that was about half a block away. Of course, the guy showed up while I was gone. My cell was nearly out of power, so I had phoned home to tell my MIL to tell them where I was if they came while I was gone, which of course they did.

I run through the snow berms back to my car, and the guy is on the line with AAA. He hangs up and says "Potty break, eh?" I'm too cold to be embarassed, much. On the way to the service station he regaled me with Stupid People tales from this latest storm, and I am convinced that there really might be something to Darwin's theory. People just fall apart when the slightest things go wrong, and I am just happy when things aren't as bad as I imagine they can be. Yeah, it sucks that my car died, but at least it made it to a parking lot out of the very busy intersection I'd been in. I had AAA, I had remembered my gloves for once so I didn't freeze as badly as I could have, and I wasn't in the boonies when it happened.

Of course, I haven't got the repair bill yet, so we'll see if I can manage to remain so positive. Now I am at home, putting up Christmas decorations and drinking a mocha latte.:D

Oh Wendy! I'm so sorry! Don't they always come JUST when you're away for a second?!?

wendybeth 12-03-2005 01:26 PM

Lol- yeah, LV knows- I was talking to her before I left this morning. Oh, well- an impromptu day off of work. Doesn't break my heart.:D

I hate to sound so ignorant - but I just don't do acronyms. What is MIL? (I'm sure I'll feel like a dip as soon as you tell me. But really, those letters can stand for anything! Mindless Intravenous Landrover, Maseratis In Love, Minions Ingesting Lasagna)

If it helps, I've been in the same sorry type of situation more times than I want to count. Symapthetic vibes from the East coast for ya.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and guess MIL = Mother In Law?

wendybeth 12-03-2005 02:05 PM

Thanks, Flippy, and you too, Matt- you're right. (Mom-in-law)

Heh heh- you want to talk serious acronymitage (and no, I don't think that's a word, but I'm using it anyway), just try dealing with a public school when you have a special needs kid. IEP, IDEA, LRE, FAPE....as nauseum. I'd have to have a frikken glossary of acronyms with me at every meeting.

And that's why I'm sitting inside, toasty warm, car in the garage, snow outside where it belongs.

And hopefully it melts soon. Melt, damn you, melt!

Sorry to hear about your auto problems, wb.

And, ahem, it's 26 degrees here. I don't wanna hear anyone complaining. Haha! (What am I laughing about?)
