Tragedy upon tragedy.

I'm in shock reading this story.

7 siblings, all adopted by their family, were killed when the van driven by the eldest (15 with a learner's permit, driving illegally without a licensed passenger over 25) was hit from behind by a semi-truck, pushed into a school bus, and caught on fire. Initial reports said that there was no evidence of braking from the semi, but more investigation shows there may have been "light" braking.

Then, later in the day, the childrens' grandfather died of a heart attack after hearing the news.

Yet more reason to follow Capt. Jack's advice and go hug your loved ones.

I read this one, too. It's horrifying.

Always the Florida connection . . . this is all the news has been talking about since last night.

And the school bus part--geez, how many school bus accidents per year is "average"? There seem to be an awful lot down here.

OMG, I hadn't heard about the grandfather. Good Lord, what a horrible chain of tragic events.

I read it this morning as well. How incredibly sad.

Wow, that is horrible. I'm not surprised that it was caused by a truck driver. I have an older brother that drives trucks and they are pushed very hard. They have strict deadlines and often computers that record their stop times. Many of them apparently turn to speed to get their runs done. Those poor parents.

Not to be the morbid King of Pain around here but...

I was thinking about this terrible happening the other day and I was thinking about how hard things are for this poor family now. I mean, imagine your house with 7 kids in it and then imagine it without them. All of that energy and laughing and crying - gone. And then imagine their belongings everywhere, pictures, toys, clothes, kids videos all still around as reminders.

I really feel for the mother especially. I wish there was something I could do. I really do.

:(

I hadn't thought about it that way but you're right. The silence must be horrible.

Awful. Awful.

Being stopped, the kid driving the van couldn't do anything about it. Driving illegally, but did nothing wrong as far as driving procedures go. Awful. Hopefully their hearts will heal.

Ya wonder why this stuff happens sometimes. There was an accident here a while back, bunch of kids in a van died when it was hit and knocked into oncoming traffic. When sitting at an intersection, waiting to turn left across traffic, always keep your wheels straight. If you do get hit from behind, at least you might not get pushed into oncoming traffic.
