Phoenix Open Golf tournament

Well, it's actually the FBR Open now, but it will always be the Phoenix Open to me.

Anyway, it is the PGA tournament with the largest attendance.

I live 3 miles from the course.

On the first day (yesterday), it was estimated that there were 35,000 vehicles trying to park with 2 square miles. There are about 125,000 people attending the tournament daily. It took me 35 minutes to travel 1.5 miles when returning home in the late afternoon yesterday.

I think I'll be staying home as much as possible this weekend.

Is that the tourney with the notoriously drunk fans on the par 3 (I wanna say 16th hole)? That's the hole with the stadium seating surrounding it. Tiger sent them into a drunken frenzy with a hole in one a couple years back.

Why yes it is, Sac. I'm impressed. It is most certainly the 16th hole.

When Tiger hit that hile in 1, I happened to be in the parking lot of a Costco that's about 1 mile away and could hear the uproar as if I were next to the green.

I love watching that hole on tv.

I'm not surprised you heard the roar from a mile away. Best fans in golf.

Hey - I was offered tickets this year on Saturday but was unable to attend.

Wanna come to Phoenix next year if I can secure some?

SacTown Chronic 02-03-2006 01:28 PM

My brother and I are planning a road trip there next fall when the Cowboys visit the Cardinals. I doubt I'd get away with sneaking off to play twice in six months' time. But thanks for the offer.

Thanks for the heads up, btw. I had no idea that the generic sounding FBR Open is the new name of the Phoenix Open. I might have missed watching one of my favorite non-major tournaments if it weren't for this thread. Now I'll be sure to tune in this weekend.

Check out who's currently in second place:

Full Name: John B. Holmes
I hear he's one of the longer players* on tour.

:D

*Golf expression. Means he hits the ball farther than most players, you perv.

*Golf term. Means he's got a Boehner.

Is this the time we are supposed to go into our double entendre golf haiku?

John Holmes wins by a touchdown!

Astonishing length.
Clutch performer around the
hole. John Holmes is king.
