RIP - Moira Shearer
Moira Shearer Star of Powell/Pressburger The Red Shoes Dies at 80
Never having been a ballet fan, I've always found most of it deadly dull. That said, Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger made ballet seem exciting and colorful in their 1948 film, The Red Shoes. A classic then and now, not to be missed if for no other reason, the luminous Moira Shearer and Jack Cardiff's arresting cinematography. If you get a chance to see on the big screen, don't miss it, it's a fabulous show in the best of technicolor excess. RIP Moira, like it or not, it's what you'll be best remembered for. Donna |
The Aero is having a Powell-Pressburger series with The Red Shoes being shown on Friday, February 17th, at 7:30 pm.
