A Qustion for the Tech-types
I am going to be buying a new computer this week. Does anyone know if I will have a problem reconecting my DSL? I have the disc for loading it, is it just a matter of running the disc?

If you have Option-A DSL line comes out of the wall, into the dsl modem, out of the dsl modem directly into your computer. You will probably need your vendor software and instructions along with your user-id and password. In essence you are starting from scratch. Option-A does not have the geeky seal of approval. Option-B DSL line comes out of the wall into the dsl modem, out of the DSL modem into a router/hub/switch, and out of the router into your pc. In this case you will probably be able to just plug the new PC in and that's it. Option-B does have the geeky seal of approval. Good Luck. |
I have the geeky seal of approval!!!
I made sure that when I got DSL that I did it right. I bought the router/gateway/thingy, not because I planned to add more computers and network them in the house, but because it was a better product. |

The non geeky thing I did, that got this ball rolling was buying Microsoft Office 2003 pro. I was taking a Windows Access class and thought that I needed it in order to remember everything. I got it home and realized I have ME, not XP. Yesterday I tried to reconnect my printer, reload it and it refused to work. After fighting with the whole thing for 3 hours I realized it is time to stop trying to salvage this stupid machine and get a new one.

Good luck with your new computer! |
Thank you!! I pulled the monitor out, it is purty. The girls won't be able to stash stuff behind the monitor any more!!

Well...So far so good!! I still need to go get a different mouse and connect the printer, but I am up and running.

Yes it is! Everything is connected, and I am already addicted to the new games I bought to replace the few I lost. My biggest problem is the new keyboard, I have to get used to it.
