New Beverly Cinema
Hey fellow Swankers,
Some great films will be screening at the New Beverly Cinema in the coming months. I thought I would give you all a heads up. Now, the theatre itself is pretty trashed, but there's a charm about the place and sort of takes you back to the pre-megaplex's we know today. I ssaw a couple films there and enjoyed the experience. BTW, each film is a double feature for the cost of $7 (I think its the same). http://www.michaelwilliams.com/beverlycinema/ March 10-11 -Harold and Maude (1971) Fri: 7:30; Sat: 3:50 & 8:00 The Loved One (1965) Fri: 9:20; Sat: 5:40 & 9:45 March 12, 13 Three Stooges Festival (6 shorts) (0) Sun: 3:40 & 7:30; Mon: 7:30 Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985) Sun: 5:40 & 9:30; Mon: 9:30 March 24, 25 The Big Lebowski (1998) Fri: 7:30; Sat: 3:25 & 7:30 Raising Arizona (1987) Fri: 9:45; Sat: 5:40 & 9:45 April 7, 8 The Maltese Falcon (1941) Fri: 7:30; Sat: 3:50 & 8:00 The Big Sleep (1946) Fri: 9:25; Sat: 5:45 & 9:55 April 9, 10, 11 Notorious (1946) Sun: 3:20 & 7:30; Mon/Tue: 7:30 Spellbound (1945) Sun: 5:20 & 9:30; Mon/Tue: 9:30 April 16, 17, 18 The Goonies (1985) Sun: 3:10 & 7:30; Mon/Tue: 7:30 Back to the Future (1985) Sun: 5:20 & 9:40; Mon/Tue: 9:40 April 21, 22 Double Indemnity (1944) Fri: 7:30; Sat: 3:35 & 7:30 In a Lonely Place (1950) Fri: 9:35; Sat: 5:40 & 9:35 April 23, 24 The Man Who Would Be King (1975) Sun: 2:40 & 7:30; Mon: 7:30 The Treasure of the Sierre Madre (1948) Sun: 5:05 & 9:55; Mon: 9:55  |
WOW! What great double features! I would LOVE to see Spellbound and Notorious together (again, I think) on the big screne. It's been at least 25 years since I'va had that experience. Unfortunately, I will be fone both of those days. (Well, both are fortunate expeditions, but I can't be both places.)
Thanks for sharing that! Something to keep an eye our for a future Swanking! |
The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona: what a great combination!

Wow! A great lineup and it is making this movie maven's heart beat faster. Harold and Maude and The Loved One (originally released with the tagline, something to offend everyone) is a great double bill. DAMN, I won't be back in CA yet, these are worth flying down for. :(

Maltese Falcon would be cool beans.
Also I a few years back I saw Errol Flynn's version and Douglas Fairbanks versions of Robin Hood at the Oakland Paramount. This theatre had so much art deco. The Organist -Gaylord (forgot last name) was fantastic for the Fairbanks version. They even had the bar intermission and no popcorn or drinks inside the theatre. |
