My jaw hit the floor when I saw this thread title and I was so hoping it was rumor.

I'm speechless and very saddened. :(

Me, too. :( I loved tuning into his monologue on the Tonight Show before I went to sleep. I've never really been able to accept Jay Leno as an acceptable substitute.

Always loved Carson's look of surprise/annoyance when one of his jokes fell flat. It was usually the funniest part of the monologue. :)

We'll miss you, Johnny.

It is like losing a family member. One of my very earliest memories as a child is sneaking into the living room(I was about 2) late at night to see what mommy and daddy were laughing about. There on the TV was a nice looking man who was sitting at a desk with a Big City behind him....and indoor trees.....I of course always got caught but more often then not ended up on mommys lap rather then back in bed. By the time I was in school my Johny Carson watching days were over.........until I rediscoverd him in the 8th Grade when I set my own bedtime :) ..........I watched him nearly every night from then on. When people started talking that he should retire and that he was getting old I always said "no way, he is still the King of Late Night. "

This is so very sad to me, I really can't believe it :(

I just heard it was emphysema... That's rough... :(

Johnny -- We miss you!

I'm in shock. I have such a deep empty feeling inside. :( Words can't express my sadness.

R.I.P., Mr. Carson.

Likewise, I watched him as often as I could from a very young age. There was just something so genuine about him. I never felt he was trying to be anybody, he was just himself and that was prefectly fine with me, and everyone else.

I always hoped he would pop up again somewhere, even if just for a brief interview or appearance. I never expected that when he left the Tonight Show, that we would never see him again in some regard.

Rest in peace, Johnny, and thank you for so many wonderful laughs and memories. You will be truly missed.
