Old Disneyland Mini Golf Course

If I remember correctly, there used to be a mini golf course located not far from the Disneyland Hotel, way back in the sixties. It looked like a miniature Disneyland, complete with castle and Matterhorn.

What I'm wondering is, do any of you have photographs of it? I have looked around online, but it's hard to search this effectively, because the terms "Disneyland" and "mini golf" turn up countless hits about stuff that exists in Anaheim right now and nothing about mini golf four decades back. If anyone is aware of a site that has pics of this long ago recreation, please post a link.

There used to be an 18-hold par 3 golf course and miniature golf course behind the Disneyland Hotel. This was put in back in the '60s.

I don't know when they came out (it isn't covered in the article Don Ballard did for MousePlanet which only covered the first 11 years of the hotel).

No, no ... I'm pretty sure Flippy means the mini golf that was at the corner of Harbor and the street that now goes directly into Timon Parking (formerly the main Disneyland vehicle entrance). It was run by some Christian outfit, and I regret never once having played mini golf there.

I also regret having no photos. Sorry. But I do remember the place quite fondly.

If he is remembering a miniature golf course with replica Disneyland attractions then he is remembering the one at the Disneyland Hotel. The Matterhorn was hole #5.

Lani finally remembered to bring the Disneyland Hotel: The Early Years 1954-1988 home from work.

According to it the Par 3 golf course and miniature golf course were taken out in 1970 to make way for construction of the Marina Tower.

Other information from the book:
  • Official name was The Magic Kingdom Golf Course
  • Official address was 1125 West Cerritos
  • Al Appplegate, an art director at Disney Studios was the project manager.
  • First hole was a replica of the Main Street railroad station
  • Hole 2 was an unknown Fantasyland theme
  • Hole 3 was a replica of the castle
  • Hole 4 was the 7 Dwarfs' mine
  • Hole 5 was Mattherorn Bobsleds (and represented the beginning of the Tomorrowland holes since that ride was considered part of Tomorrowland back then
  • Hole 6 was a generic Tomorrowland hole
  • Hole 7 was Rocketship to the Moon
  • Hole 8 was Octopus's lair from Submarine Voyage
  • Hole 9 was Autopia
  • Hole 10 generic Adventureland
  • Hole 11 was Painted Desert
  • Hole 12 was generic Frontierland
  • Hole 13 was Skull Rock but was in the middle of Frontierland holes because they originally planned for it to be the Indian Village
  • Hole 14 Tom Sawyer Island
  • Holes 15-17 returned to Fantasyland with Monstro, Mr. Smee, and Alice in Wonderland
  • Hole 18 was Mickey Mouse.
  • When constructed the top price of a standard room was $29/night and as cheap as $10/night during the off season.
  • Holes 5-9 were Tomorrowland themed (including the Matterhorn hole, as Matterhorn was considered part of Tomorrowland then)
  • Hole 10 was Adventureland
  • Holes 11 and 12

Ah, no wonder I don't remember it. My first visit to Disneyland was in 1971.

Sounds like it was a hoot.
