A Trip With *Non Believers*: The Report
On Monday, March 20th I was able to play tour guide for my aunt and cousin (older adults) from Nova Scotia and my mom. This was my aunt and cousins first trip to CA but have been to WDW "a really long time ago". My mom has a handful of trips under her belt (from when I was a kid) and *believes* because I do. My family purchased the 2-fer and visited DCA without me last week and were back to visit DL. They liked DCA.
The following chronicals our journey through Disneyland. Our day was starting at noon. I arrived on time; and received a phone call while I was on the [WHAT] tram [what? I'm on the tram! I can't hear WHAT? I'll call you back]. With a half hour to kill (my family operates on a different clock) I cruised WoD looking at stuff. I emerged from WoD about 12:30 and met up with my family. We went through bag check and witnessed a couple yelling at the CMs for stopping them after they barreled through the line, cutting in-front of at least 20 people because they "didn't have anything" on them. Security was on their way and we didn't see the outcome. We made it through the front gates about 12:15. YAY! Requisite photo at the flowers (no mom, you can't just walk up there, there is a kind-a line... yes mom, those people were there first..). As we strolled down Main St. everyone was impressed with Walts apartment and loved the feel of the area. My cousin decided we had to come back to get ice cream. Lunch at Plaza Inn. It was good. My mom and aunt loved the building and everyone loved the food. The white pasta sauce has meat in it for those who care. We hit Tomorrowland first to do Star Tours and Buzz (bunch of chickens they are.. no Space Mtn).. Cousin hated Star Tours, everyone loved Buzz. It was a riot watching my mom shoot at the all the Zs and excaim I GOT ONE! We made it down to Mansion (everyone loved it), walked around NoS (aunt loved the stores), hit JC where we had a skipper who was eating his microphone then hit Indy with a FP (everyone but the cousin loved it). By then my aunt and cousin were done. They didn't want to see Fantasyland because they "saw it in FL" and they were annoyed that the lines were too long (20-30 minutes). We went to Storytellers for dinner. My family enjoyed their food but the rest of the experience warrented a letter to the GM (I'll just say that my food never made it to the table). The vegetable soup has a beef broth for those who care. By then it was 8 and starting to rain so we left. After slick manuvering we made it on the 5th tram out and went home. In conclusion, everyone had a good time, I finally have memories with my mom at DL. Being a tour guide to non-believers is wonderful but disappointing if you can't get that pixie dust into them. I have realized how blessed I am to have believers to go to the park with. Thank you for reading The End. |
Good job on the indoctrination. All you have to do is plant the seed! Who knows what may come of it?
:snap: |
What is your cousin's problem? :p I'm just wondering if it's a matter of not liking the jerky motions of Tours and Indy...

Going to the park with Disneyland Muggles is totally hard. If they're not into it, and it looks like there's no way to convert them, I just let them set the course for the day and write it off. If they're interested, I totally give them the grand tour as best I can.
BTD ~ Your food never came? Huh? :( |

To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to let you know about the terrible experience I had in your restaurant on Monday, March 20, 2006. I was acting as “tour guide” at Disneyland for some out of town family. Since I frequent Storytellers Café on a semi-regular basis with my friends, I decided it would be an excellent place to end our evening. I was dead wrong. We arrived at 6:30 pm for our priority seating time. Our estimated wait time was 15 minutes. No big deal, we took a seat and waited. About five minutes later our buzzer went off and I realized that I forgot to ask for a table instead of a booth to accommodate a heavy party member, so I mentioned it to the hostess taking us to our seat. That’s my fault. What happened after pretty much set the tone for the rest of the evening. The hostess left us to go check for a table. Instead of coming back and letting us know it would be a few minutes (so we could move out of the way) she left us standing awkwardly behind the hostess stand for about 5 minutes while she and another hostess scrambled to find a table. We were in the way of the host staff and parties being seated. We ended up being seated at a table in an obviously closed section (at the front of the restaurant to the left of the waiting area). It was apparent we were being ‘dumped’ on a waiter in another section. [name removed](our waiter) did the best he could, scrambling between two sections. I want to make that clear. We waited about 10 minutes for our drink order to be taken. During that time no one acknowledged us or brought bread or water to our table (something that in the past had been done almost immediately by at least a food runner). When [name removed] came by he took our drink order and promptly brought the drinks. He then took our order. [name removed] was awesome and was doing the best he could with a full section and us in a completely inconvenient section. After about 10 minutes I finally asked for bread since none had brought and we were starving (which he promptly brought over). After another 10 – 15 minutes our order finally came out. Two of the four items were not correct. My mom ordered a hamburger (no cheese) with a side of Thousand Island dressing and I ordered the chicken quesadilla with no chicken (which I have ordered in the past with no problem). The burger had cheese on it, no dressing anywhere to be found and my quesadilla had chicken in it. We sent both meals back. The food runner brought the orders back within five minutes. The burger was right but now the quesadilla had nothing but cheese in it. I sent it back yet again to be corrected (everything but the chicken). After 15 minutes and no quesadilla I flagged down [name removed] and asked him to cancel the quesadilla since it still wasn’t out, my party was done eating (the dressing never appeared) and I was concerned to what the kitchen staff may have done to it (working in restaurants I’m aware of what kitchen staff will do, appalled but aware). [name removed] cancelled the quesadilla and removed it from the bill. I left hungry and ate dinner when I got home. I don’t know what was off in your restaurant tonight; but I am severely upset at the service we received. It seems that instead of asking us to wait a little longer for a table in an open section we were pawned off onto a server with a full section no where near the section we were seated in. As a result our service (and probably others) suffered. [name removed] did the best he could but was unable to offer the attention that a server normally does. I hope you will look into this issue and offer additional training for your hosting team so this situation does not happen to anyone ever again. I also wanted to add that throughout this there was no manager to be seen or I would have brought this problem to their attention right away. |
^^
Sorry you had such a bad experience. Nothing's worse than having to hassle with things like this after an already long day. As expecially when you're trying to impress out of town guests. |
Aww. Thanks katiesue. Dinner didn't ruin it, I was actually shocked because I've never had anything but outstanding service there.
It wasn't a bad trip. Just different then I had hoped for. In my head we all had Guest of Honor badges and came off every first time ride with WOW that was increadible (except for TMAOWTP of course). We had ice cream, popcorn and Dole Whips (oh, wait, I did buy one) and our inner-child came out. |
