The Return of Smell-O-Vision

Leave it to the Japanese! Article is here.

Quote:

A floral scent accompanies a love scene, while a mix of peppermint and rosemary is emitted during a tear-jerking scene. Joy is a citrus mix of orange and grapefruit, while anger is enhanced by a herb-like concoction with a hint of eucalyptus and tea tree.
Somehow, Colin Farrell does not conjur up the wafting scent of eucalyptus and tea tree, somehow beer & cigarettes seem more appropos. Then again, I keep thinking back to John Waters work with a Smell-O-Vision card.....;)

I totally thought about John Waters too!! See the Japanese aren't really that much ahead of our in country visionaries are they????

I wonder that if you sit in the seats right under the machines, will that mean that you will leave the theatre smelling like all the scents used for the film?

John Waters was just ahead of his time - somewhere I've got an old smell-o-vision card tucked away for safe keeping for the next time I'd like a wiff of dirty sneakers or air freshener.

Wasn't the idea of a scented movie experience something that was developed early on? I seem to remember reading something about this recently. Although it could've been in literature about Japan I read before our trip.

Actually, I had heard that one of the early concepts for Fantasia was to include scent elements, the idea being that you would have ushers walking the aisles at various points with incense like devices
