Question about Disneyland building material.

I have a friend who is an artist. She called me with a question that I'm hoping someone might be able to answer.

There is a material that Disneyland uses to create rock, wood, or pretty much any surface they want to create, as it is very sculptable. It is used in many of the attractions such as Big Thunder and Indy and I remember reading somewhere of what it is made of. If I'm not mistaken, it is something different than just concrete.

Does anyone happen to know anything about what it is or how it is made? My friend wants something similar to simulate rock and other surfaces in her artwork.

I presumed they used gunite

Perhaps.

For some reason, I recall reading that it was a material that the imagineers had created and that possibly they referred to it as "mud". I wish I could recall where I read this.

Disney has their own recipe called "mud" - I can't track it down right now, but I believe they got a patent around the time Splash Mountain DL was built.
