Grand Cal to APer's: Lounge Somewhere Else

The AP Lounge has been downgraded to unwelcoming.

It was one thing to leave the tacky hallway-grade replacement carpet in the Great Hall after the fire, but now they have removed the comfy, overstuffed sofas and replaced them with cushioned benches!!!!

Photos to follow, I'm sure ... but a thousand words will not be spoken till you actually sit upon these interlopers of inferior furniture.

It's painfully obvious that lounging is being discouraged at the Grand Californian. I might not even bother to renew my AP in two weeks.

That totally stinks. Benches? It's supposed to be a posh hotel.

It's the Disney version of posh. Looks great from a distance, but up close it's synthetic materials and forced perspective.

That sucks, iSm. Nothing says 'welcome' like hard benches, eh?

Not to be offensive, but why should the hotel be concerned about APer comfort in this instance? Having an AP has nothing to do with staying on property or the hotel at all. In fact, having an extra crowded lobby would seem like something that would annoy the guests staying at the hotel.

That being said, having stayed at the GC a few times, I always liked the big comfy couches, and I never thought it to be overly crowded.

I just fail to see why this is an "AP" issue at all. Maybe I'm missing something.

I wonder if they changed them on the second floor too - up where Evita sang from?

I think the problem with the benches is that they're uncomfortable for ALL guests to sit on, besides the A.P.'s. Regular hotel guests use these as well.

As for the A.P. angle; A.P.'s make up 60% of the resorts attendance. If word of mouth is the Grand Cal sucks, it'll discourage some tourists from staying there & Disney loses potential revenue.

Of course, the Grand Cal lobby being the 'A.P. Lounge' is just a joke, as I'm sure you were already aware.

Oh, certainly....but i always thought that APers did actually hang out there for a rest. Perhaps they are trying to discourage this behavior?

I just can't see a reason why they would remove the existing furniture unless they were looking for a specific result. The only result I can think of is to discourage people from hanging out there.
