This one's a bit immodest but it's an immodest kind of day

Maybe it's just that time of the month but hey
really good day that wants me to cry
day says "life is great, strength to strength
let's get emotional!"

Kids brought me staff appreciation day cards
all on the same white paper folded the same
teacher made them do it, but it doesn't matter.
all same but all different
with color and pictures and ideas
waxy crayon and chalk comes off on my hand
markers bleed through, written over pencil practice
letters waltz up and down, trying so hard not to wobble
words like "great" and "best" and "fun"
my body a triangle with three lines for hairstyle
and don't forget the smile

I swear I almost cried
one had a drawing of the new rug
the one we just just got, just just a month ago
already they love it it means library
the one I chose so carefully

they say they will miss me
they wish me luck
they think I'm going to another school
or moving away
and that I'm taking the books with me
I never thought I'd call 4th graders cute

Happy and heartsick
Proud and sad
first time in my life
I can use the word "legacy"
and really mean it

I think that's awesome. Well done, CP. You deserve it.

Edit to add: Waitaminute. Isn't it supposed to be 'You're the best librarian in our school'? Didn't you teach these kids proper grammar? I'm kidding. :D
